I I; , ; FOR QUICK AND COURTEOUS SERVICE BRING YOUR CAR I How Ve Became The Parsons This article apeared in the Parson in September, 1953. We felt that it is a good article and it should be brought to the attention of the students. An off brand name like the Parsons makes many people wonder just where and when and why the name. Sidney Metz, an alumni of about 1928 wrote, Some time before I started to school at Mr. John C. Westminster, Derkes for whom the baseball park wasnamed was a. sports .writer for the Salt. Lake Tribune. He, as so many other falks, seemed to think the name of the school, was Westminster and conse(note the extra quently, the name Parson." It was just tagged on to the team by error, but has persisited to this day. Mr. Metz worked for the Tribune while attending Westhe says Mr. Derkes minster him the Parcaned always son. He never could seem to get the name correctly. This is the reason we are called the Parsons. It is probably as a distinct a nickname as to be found for any team or school. If people have trouble with Westminster they shouldnt have the same trouble with Parsons. We should be proud of the1 name and support it. If anyone ever asks you how we acquired the nickname, you can now tell them. i) L K.s Recruit The Intercollegiate Knights will have their final initiation week betwen thg 5th tend 9th of March.
