Show WESTERN MINING GAZETTEER. Sftittitw tmtl 9SUHnir the ore bod ies of Prospect Mountain, notwithstanding its limestone formation, have as much attraction for the contact as the great ore bodd ies of Kuby Hill's great ore channel, and that these contact lodes down deep into the earth. Wherever the contact is seen in the tuunel, though the rocks are not of the same age but of common origin, ore is found. About 1,000 feet from the mouth of the tunnel a mineral belt is touud more than 200 teet in width. This is the Magnet series of mines situated on Foleys Hill. Ores of a nodultc and geodic char ACter are seen scattered all through the belt, but will, when worked on and opened up, swell to large ore bodies. Ore is being extracted from two lodes. When first discovered the lodes were not more than inch in width. After a few days' work one of them has opened to 00 or 38 inches in width, and shows ore, black and gray carbonate, running high in gold and silver. The second is 18 inches in width carrying a silver chloride encased in black oxide with manganese as a matrix. This matrix or gangue assays $2518 to the ton, while the chloride will assay more than douole tkal amount. The Kureka Tunnel as a great enter prise will be of great importance to Eureka, aud notwithstanding the fine discoveries already made, it will some day not far distant, astonish the world with its great discoveries. The workings are still in the shale, and when the tunnel passes through the great shale belt of Pros-peMountain it is then that it will enter the immense contact lode that is known to be under the apex of the grand old mountain. Eureka Cox. Adairs at the mine remain about the same as per last report no change worthy of mention. Both furnaces are running smoothly, with enouth ore to keep them in operation. The following prospect work has been done in the several drills this week: Sixth level Drift northwest 20 feet, in all 108 feet. Eighth level Drift north near west line, 17 feet, in all 105 feet. Ninth level Winze sunk 12 feet, in all 30 feel. Tenth level Drift cast23 feet, in all 571 teet. New shall sunk 30 feet, in all 288 feet. Floclie District, Paid Ui The Meadow Valley Company has paid up the entire in debtedness due on its machinery, amounting to $45,000. The company sold a portion ot their tailings to Uodbe A Co., of Salt Lake, and the money received from them was applied to payiug oil' the indebtedness on the hoisting and pumping machinery. Raymond & Ely. On Wednesday the Haymond & Ely pump was started up for the purpose of testing whether the machinery was in good order, and everything was fouud all right. llrifttol District. Mayflower. There has been quite a number of men put to work on the Mayllowcr mine this week extracting ore. Tnnliering the shall progresses rapidly. Mkndiia. The Mendha mine it is claimed, has more ore in sight than any other mine in Nevada. This ore goes heavy in lead Tub New Mill The Bristol Companys new null will drop stamps on tne 20tli of this mouth. They put up an experimental roaster last week aud from 100 pounds of ore they got tour ouuces of silver. Everything in and around the mill preseuls a lively appcttraucu. lieconl. TtiMcarora District. e We find the following in the : Grand Prizk. The south crosscut from the west surface prospect shaft has been advanced 10 teet; total 50 feet; and the north crosscut 7 level feet; total 37 feet. The east drift from the north crosscut 400-fohas been extended 8 feet beyond No. 3 crosscut; vein has been lor the past 30 feet narrow but contains bunches good ore. The slopes are producing rich ore for some 120 feet iu length, present extent of opemug. We have cut for and timbered station lor winze on the 500-folevel; will have pumping facilities ready to ower water by Saturday, and will then commence sinking winze. Pulp assays lor the week ending 0 a. ex-ten- VTAU. Star Diatrict. Stillwater. Ore assaying 4,000 ounces silver per ton has been struck in this mine. McGarry DlHlrlct, Four Feet Wide. Anew strike has been made in McGariy dis- trict, six miles east of Millord, in the Granite range a ledge tour teet wide, containing black sulpliurets of silver; top rock goes on an average thirty ounces silver and three ounces gold to the ton. There are now three parlies out prospecting in these hills and the result of their labor will no doubt be the linding of one big mine at least. Fine Grove Dirttrict. The editor of the Southern Utah Time.x recently visited this district, and in shaking of the mines says: At the head of the list stands the Carrie Lucille, the property of the Pine Grove Company. The vein stands nearly vertical, so nearly so, in tact, that it is ditlicult to say in which direction it will linally dip. The shaft is now down feet, and as the vein has widened so much in the bottom, ore is being leitou what we think will eventually prove to be the hanging wall, and the toot wall is being followed. The ore is not so concentrated here as at points alK)ve,but it could hardly be looked lor, considering the width of the vein. The seams of quartz separating he ore are all permeated with ore, and are considered rich ore dump As enough to warrant their consignment to the second-clasthe shaft is entirely in the vein, everything is being sorted into first and second-clas- s ore. The former is of very high grade and can lie shipped to Salt Lake at a large profit, while the latter will pay handsomely for working. We think this property gives great promise of becoming a valuable mine. Five men are at present employed, divided into two shifts. No work is at present being done on the other properties of the company, the Crystal Palace and Pinafore; and as we have already noticed the developments made, a visit was not paid them. The company have erected a sulxdantial and commodious boardinghouse At the foot of the mountain, and arc getting everything in shape for an active winter campaign. Next in importance, in our opinion, to the Carrie Lucille, and situated about one mile south, is the Miller, on which very little work has been done, but still enough to show the ledge to be upwards of seven feet wide, through which run several stringers, from five to twelve iuches thick, of fine looking ore. The shaft, on which two men are working, it down but tour feet, and we shall look for interesting developments as work progresses. The vein. can be traced on the surlace the entire length of the claim, and like ali the others in the district is in quartzite Messrs. West and Miller are the happy owners. A south extension has been located upon which one man is at work. We next visited the Pine Grove, Carbouate, Gray Eagle, Hidden Treasure, Col. Comptson, Bismarck, Col. Cook and Silver Cliff. A number of these claims were located and worked as eArly as 1872, and show veins from one to five feel wide, with more or less good ore. On the Gray Kagle a shaft was sunk during that year to the depth of forty-fivfecr, but left the vein at the depth of twenty feet, where it is aboiit fourteen inches wide, filled with g material. We did cross-cuno was had been run to told but down t that not go the shaft, is a contains at that depth still mystery. Concut the vein, and what it siderable work was also done during the same year on the Carbonate, Pine Grove audJCol. Compton, but the workings on all of them have been filled up with slide rock, in some instances leaving hardly enough ol them to mark the spot where the early prospector sought his fortuue. On the dumps of each, however, some ore remains to show what was encountered. The Hidden Treasure shows on the surface some fine looking ore, but not enough work has lieen done to determine the width of the ledge. The Col. Cook is the south extension of the Carrie Lucille, and the croppings show spots of ore of the same general appearance as the Carrie. On the Bismarck a shaft has been sunk a distance of twelve feet, showing about twenty inches of iron.staincd ore, which assays well in silver and gold. This is certainly a promising property and should be sixty-seve- n i s e lively-lookin- farther Bhown up. What this district needs is a little capital to open up the prospects already located, and thus determine its value as a mining country. The locators are, almost without exception, poor men, and are consequently not able to go on and open up their properties, but are willing to part with a portion of their interests to raise the necessary funds to enable tin m to do so.' We recommend this district to the careful consideration of those having money to invest in mining enterprises. SEVADA. Eureka District. Eureka Tunnel. The Sentinel says this tunnel is now in 1,415 By a walk through it the structure of the eastern slope of Proscan lie seen, composed for thcinosi part of argillaceous Mountain pect and lime shales. Also, limestone of a coloritic character can be teen here and there. The tunnel is demonstrating a great fact; that feet. to-wi- t: . ct to-da- y Timex-Jleeiet- ot ot m. to-da- y, $217 02. Navajo. The south drift from the main incline 70 foot level, has been advanced 8 feet; total 25 feet. Vein is 12 inches wide, and gives low assays. The south drift from the joint Belle Isle east crosscut, has been extended 0 feet ; Dtal, 78 feet. Vein 8 inches wide of lair ore. The south drill on the intermediate level between the 150 aud 250 levels k has been extended 7 teet. Vein 12 inches wide ol good milling ore. The surface south incline 50 feet south of the Bauticld surface tribute line is down 18 feet 10 inches of ledge matter. Bauticld surlace incline (tributirground), south drift has been advanced to, aod is now within five feel ot the south line. Vein two l'cet wide of good ore. Slopes south have been carried up 35 feet. Pulp for the week, tribute ore, has averuged $121 81. Auobnta. The 200 loot level east drift lias been extended !! feet; total 125 feet. Work m the drift is stopped for tlic present, and an upraise started from the luce of the drift, aud extended 20 teet; also crosscutting into the hanging wall near the face of the dritt; progress 17 feet. The upraise ubove the crosscut west ot the shaft is extended 15 feet; total (17 feet. West drift from the bottom of the winze is 25 feet, east drift from the same 10 teet. The former drill is slopped, ami we are now sloping. The chloride stopes continue to yield well. The drift and slope are yielding some very line sulphuret ore The formation iu the crosscut from east drift is changing, and looks more lavor. able. The mill continues to do good work. Average pulp assay for the week, $33,92. Independence. During the past week the north 500 foot level drilt his been advanced and timbered 22 feet; now in 3151 feet. The ledge continues to look promising, aud some good ore is being takeu out. The stopes between the 400 aud 500 levels are yielding good milling |
