Show mining gazetteer WJESTZERInT COL. R. IL ROGERS OPINION. 1 This gentleman is well known on the Coast, as a reliable mining man and his opinion has great weight, hence the following interview, which a representative of the Gazetter recently had, will be of interest : When did you come from Idaho ? On the First of October. How do things look up at Bonanza? Encouraging. The General Custer mill must be running by this time and will soon make large shipments of bullion. The prospect in the lower tunnel of the Chas. Dickens is excellent and I am creditably informed the Montana has a large body of high grade ore in sight. Have you been to Wood River? Yes only examined the mines around Ketchum and found some Very fine prospects. The mines generally appear to be remarkably rich. ' Have you visited any Utah properties ? Only those at Willard, near Ogden. I see a correspondent of one of our morning papers speaks in glowing terms of them ; what do you think? They have nothing which will pay $i per ton. They talk of having plenty of free gold ore on the dump? Yes, they may have, but if so, it was packed there from some other mine. I have known this done. It disgusts me to read their reports in the daily papers, for I sampled and assayed the Superior and Hawkeye, and found they carried absolutely nothing and as I gave them my assay certificates from three reliable assay-er- s here and at the Park, they must know that they have nothing. Theres a little streak an inch or two wide in the large barren ledge that cairies gold but the balance carries scarcely a trace and in the Hawkeye I could not get a trace of gold. What is their object in thus parading worthless property before the public ; certainly not with the hope of selling stock here or in Og- Salt Lake Stock Exchange.
