Atlas Corp. Adds Stature To NJW. Uranium Outlook A ALBUQUERQUE, N. M. new and high degree of vitality and maturity comes to the uranium mining industry in New Mexico with the announcement in New York by Floyd B. Odium, president of the Atlas Corporation that his firm has ecquired a controlling interest in Rio De Oro Uranium Mines, Inc., which has general offices here. This was the reaction expressed last evening by W. Rodney DeVilliers, Rio De Oro president and one of the firms original founders. Those of us who have pioneered Rio De Oros entry into uranium mining have long felt the need for a parent of Atlas stature, so the completion of negotiations with Mr. Odium is a gratifying experience and one that will be welcomed by the rest of our family of share holders, Mr. DeVilliers said. his fond affection and deep interest in our great state. In assuming controlling interest in Rio De Oro Uranium Mines, his distinguished firm displays important confidence in New Mexicos future. My own great personal admiration for Mr. Odium as one of the great Americans of our time is heightened by his willingness and desire to hasten an in- fant industry towards maturity, Mr. DeVilliers said. Except for having a greatly strengthened board of directors and wiser guiding hands to steer us, Rio De Oros basic goals and methods of operation are unchanged. Our background is good and our future planning is sound. We FROM UTAH'S MINES Atlas Drills On 29 Piccolo Pete Claim Program GRAND JUNCTION, Colo., Allas Uranium Corp. announced today drilling is starting this week on the 29 Piccolo Pete claim on the Happy Jack trend in the White Canyon district, San Juan County, Utah. The exploration program is being financed partly through a $55,202 DMEA loan granted Bleak Uranium Co., Atlas affiliate. Bleak is supplying $18,401 of the total cost. President A. J. JENSEN, -A BETTER UTAH The 1956 assessment of mining property In our state was 27.5 of the total assessed value of all property In Utah. As a result, taxes paid by mining were an important factor in governmental financing.
