Brian Eby of Houston, former chief of the Shell Oil Companys Gulf Coast geophysical department and a leading independent consulting geologist for nearly a quarter of a century, has been named a director of the Texas International Sulphur Co., it was announced in Houston by Victor Dkyes, president. Dr. Elby will be in charge of the companys explorations for sulphur currently being carried on in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Mexico, where Texas International holds vast sulphur concessions. Assisting Dr. Eby will be G. P. Salas of Mexico City, who has been promoted to the post of chief geologist for the company. Texas International employed Dr. Eby as a consulting geologist last August because of his background as a specialist in salt dome geology. He participated in such sulphur discoveries as the Bolling, Nash, Orchard, Hoskins Mound and Jefferson Island sulphur domes. The Bolling dome, which is also known as the New Gulf dome, is one of the largest sulphur domes in the world. Dr. Eby is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, where he received his Ph.D. His first job was with the United States Geological Survey in Washington. He came to Houston in 1925 as head of Shells geophysical department in the Gulf Coast Region, operating from Florida to Mexico. One of his first ventures was participating in the discovery of the Charenton Oil Field near Franklin, La., in 1932. Dr. Eby was one of the founders of the Texas Journal of Science, is a past president of the Texas Academy of Science and a member of tjie American Association of Petroleum Geologists, American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Royal Society of Arts in London ,New York Academy of Science, 'Independent Petroleum Association of America, Society of Exploration Geophysics, and a past president of the Houston 'Geological Society.
