Show 6 January 10, 1947 The Western Mineral Survey, Salt Lake City, Utah Brilliant Future Seen For Coeur d'Alene Area Ida. The Coeur dAlene mining district has a brilliant future as it is one of the great mineral storehouses of the' nation, Felix Wormser, secretary of the Lead Industries Association of New York, told members of the Kellogg Chamber of Commerce recently. He predicted an excellent future for lead now that price controls have been ' removed. He stated that the only control over the metal remaining was that of allocation, and he expected that to be removed very soon. Because of the tremendous demand for lead and the many uses for the metal for which no suitable substitute has been found, it is in a very prominent spot in the nations mineral marWALLACE, ket. The speaker stated that some 800.000 tons of lead are needed annually with only 350,000 to be produced from mines. Approximately 350,000 more tons come from scrap savings. The storage battery industry alone needs 300.000 tons of lead and the telephone industry another 200,000 tons. One is known as the San Rafael Anticline or Swell and the other is the Nequola Arch Anticline. Both structures are in Emery county and lie south and southeast of the promising Gordon Creek Structure in Carbon County. Promising Area In the center of the San Rafael Anticline is an area which the U. S. Geological Survey has definitely recommended as having potential oil and gas possibilities. A major company has assembled a block of leases in this area and is planning an extensive development program. . The Nequoia Arch Anticline, northeast of HanksviUe, Utah, embraces approximately 125,000 acres. George Callihan, independent oil operator, is putting down a test on this structure, where he is reported to have encountered important oil saturations at a depth of 2500 feet. Tests Planned With deep test operations planned tor these structures in the early months of 1947, it is possible that Utah may contrib-to ute two great new oil pools the nation. Oil Reporter. . .
