Drillers Busy At Rangely The village of Rangely, Colo., fastest growing little oil community in America, may soon see town lot drilling for oil, leaders in the industry said this week in Denver. Rolling ahead with tremendous speed, oil drillers in the area are approaching the town. To start with, the discovery well in the Rangely field was located about 4 miles northwest of the village itself. Since the California Co. brought in the first well the Raven A drilling has been moving ahead. Stanolind Oil & Gas Co., a big operator, reported two new locations in the southwest corner of thfe field. One of these is Just north of the main street of the village of Rangely. Stanolind already has been working in the southeast end of the field. One of the new locations which will determine further extension of this area is the No. 1 J. E. Pepper, sw se nw sec. This is one mile east of the other active Stanolind locations. It is the first well at Rangely to be drilled in lOlw. If the well goes on production it will extend the field one mile. The second new location is Stanolinds No. 1 G. E. White, located in the sw ne ne sec. Outcome of. this venture, oilmen said, may cause town lot drilling. The location is just north of the main street Jf it becomes a producer, some wells undoubtedly will be drilled in the town of Rangely itself and the field probably will extend on beyond the village. The California Co. brought in its Stewart W. McLaughlin No: 3 well in nw ew sec. over the week-en- d, bringing total producers in the field to 168, of which California has 1w. . 80. Passenger Car Sales Still Low Program Set For Denver Mining Meet DENVER, Colorado A well rounded program for future development of mining in the West is being prepared for presentation at the golden anniversary convention of the 'mining industry to b$ held here Feb. 6, 7, 8, 1947, according to Robert S. Palmer, secretary of Colorado Mining Assn. The meeting, regarded by miners as the most important of its kind in the past decade, will vitally affect the course of the industry for the coming year. Snyder to Speak John W. Snyder, secretary of the treasury, will be one of the principal speakers. A special meeting among Mr. Snyder and governors of western states has been scheduled. Metal' requirements of the nation for 1947 will be outlined by able men from Washington, New York City and other sections of the country. International and national monetary and industrial needs for silver and gold will be discussed. Mining men will discuss ways and means of increased production of metals from the vast mineral reserves known to exist in the United States. Methods of mining, milling and smelting ores to increase metal production will receive a thorough going over. Labor will be asked to state clearly if its policy will be to meet the needs of the nation for metals and discontinue strikes, and slowdowns for at least a year. Premium Price Continuation of the premium price plan and other programs will be discussed by representatives from all sections of the mining industry. The . mining industry will voice its approval or disapproval of various plans which have been suggested. Some of these plans are designed to prevent the shutting down of marginal mining operations at a time when the nation is crying for greater production of metals. There will be discussions by leading authorities of the federal government on ways and means for helping produce metals. for national requirements. Here geologists, both national and state, will participate. Tariff questions, freedom from taxation and modification of SEC requirements all will be investigated. The world famous Sowbelly Dinner will be bigger than ever, as will the Gold and Silver Banquet. These banquets have gained reputation for excellence throughout the country. . . - DETROIT Factory sales of passenger cars through November, 1946, totalled only 53 per cent of sales for the same period of 1941 according to an industrywide compilation announced today by the Automobile Manufacturers Association.
