The. movements in New Production of lead at the property of the American Zinc Lead Co., in the Metaline district, Washington, increased in September. The Metaline Mining & Leasing Co., and important producer of lead and zinc in the same district ceased production late in August to conduct development during the next several months. Mine output in zinc in the Unit-.e- d States in September was vir tually unchanged from August indicating a slight gain in the daily, rate of. output according to the Bureau of Mines. The average monthly output in the July-- September quarter, however, was 18 per cent below that in the second quarter of the year. Output in Eastern and Western States areas declined slightly in conformance with the slightly shorter month. Production in central states, on the other hand rose 3 per cent, but this area produced only half of the average rate in April-Jun- e. monthlyover-all The small drop in Western States output was the result of varied movements in individual states. Among Imstates in portant this area Idaho, Arizona. Utah and Nevada showed declines tha the difference in exceeded length of the month, whereas New Mexico and Washington hat gains. In Idaho the decrease was due mainly to the closing for repairs, during all of September of the Bunker Hill and Sullivan zinc-fumiplant near Kellogg. Decreases in Arizona, Utah and Nevada resulted from smaller outputs at several properties. The National Tunnel & , Mines. Co., district, Utah,, was Bingham closed in August because of the expiration of premium prices. New Mexicos gain was despite the August closing of the Peru Mining Co. Pewabic mine. Grant County.-Expansiin produc tion at the Holden mine of the Howe Sound Co., in Chelan County, reopened in August as mentioned in last months report, was chiefly responsible for the" gain shown for Washington The Metaline Mining & Leasing: ' Co., an important ' producer o in the Metaline dislead and-zin- c trict, ceased production late in August to conduct development during the next several months.
