Demand. was quieter than a week ago, but bookings each day were in fair volume. The price held firm at 41 cents a pound. New York. .Buying of zinc continued moderate, although some quarters said interest was a bit better than last week. The tariff commission gave congress a special report on the lead and zinc situation last week. It said imports of lead and zinc have risen while domestic production, profits and employment have fallen. However, the commission did not reach any conclusion on whether higher tariffs or other restrictions should be imposed. This, it said, is a question of public policy, for congress. Quicksilver moved up sharply again? light supplies, the result of large-scal- e buying by the United States and other governments sent the price as high as $230 per flask of 76 pounds. For copper April promises to be the best month so far this year, with most of the custom smelters supply of copper for delivery this month already absorbed at ' the present price of 30 cents a pound. May orders are reported to be coming in at a good rate. However, large producers still have copper available for May delivery. Fabricators are doing better.
