The well is being drilled on the Gunnison Anticline, In close proximity to the town of Gunnison, Utah, in Sanpete County. Gordon Bell, consulting geologist of Salt Lake City, formerly with the U. S. Bureau of Mines, made a very favorable geologic report on the area. The geological formations in the area now under exploration as explained by Mr. Bell are at the extreme southern terminus of the Gunnison Plateau. The formations exposed at the surface are, from oldest to youngest, the Jurassic (Arapien formation), Tertiary (Green River formation Flagstaff limestone) Quaternary alluvium, and present river deposits. The Gunnison Oil company also holds acreage near producing oil areas of Duchesne County, Utah. HILL, Business deposits in Ravalli County, Mont., investigated late in 1951 by the Bureau of Mines, United States Deparment of the Interior, are described in a report released today by Bureau Director J. J. Forbes. The investigations, part of the Bureaus continuing search for new domestic sources of strategic minerals, included bulldozer and drilling blasting rock cuts, and channel sampling across three of the largest outcrops. According to the report, 214 linear feet of rock trench was sampled at intervals, indicating an average grade of 97.2 per cent calcium fluorite and 1.44 per cent silica. Tests made by Bureau metallurgists show that .the ore can be concentrated to acid grade by simple gravity meth- fluorite strip-trenchin- g, 10-fo- ot ods. BU-tero- ot Spo- kane, Wash. Anaylsis of the ore and a cursory examination of the deposits led to the more thorough investigation described in the Bureaus report. A short history of the property and a detailed description of the deposits and the areas climate are 'contained in the report. which also discusses the availability of labor and supmetplies. Results preliminary toallurgical tests are included gether with two maps of the area. Directors of Bunker Hill and Sullivan Mining and Concentrating Company, meeting in San Francisco last week, declared a regular quarter dividend of 25 cents a share, but omitted the 25 cent extra dividend which has been paid in the eight preceding quarters. Declining income resulting from depressed lead and zinc prices is understood to be the reason for the dividend cut.
