Show June 13, 1952 The Western Mineral Surrey, Salt Lake City, Utah The Sales Dollar There are few topics on which there is more misunderstanding and misinterpretation than the subject of the disposition of the sales dollar. In his connection, the 1951 annual report of the Motors General Corporation should be studied by everyone. The table shows that almost 50 per cent of the sales dollar went to suppliers. Over 26 per cent went directly to employees as wage payments. Altogether over 75 per cent of the sales dollar was paid to supplieds and employees. Ultimately most of this total finds its way into workers pockets. The most striking and also the most disturbing fact is that over 15 per cent of the total sales dollar went to the government in t axes. This is indisputable evidence of the important casual role played by taxes in the high cost of living. Net profits totaled only 6.8 per cent of the sales dollar and of this sum 2 per cent of the sales dollar was retained in the business in order to expand its size and to create more jobs. It is of more than passing interest to discussions of the causes of the high cost of living that the tax bill was equivalent to 52.25 for each dollar of net profits and $3.14 for pach dollar of dovidends. If an additions in sales and excise taxes on products sold by G.M. is taken into account, the tax bill is equivalent to $3.05 for each dollar of net profits and $4.25 for each dollar of dividends. $407,-000,0- tober, A.
