Show March 12, 1943 The .Western Mineral Survey, Salt Lake City, Utah The Least You Can Do Summit County, Colo, Sees Resurge Of Activity MONTEZUMA, Colo. This fa- mous- old Summit County mining district will show much greater activity with the opening of spring. Principal values are In lead, silver arid zinc with some gold. High surrounding moun- tains make this district ideal for tunnel mining. Leading zinc bonus prices will bring idle properties to life. Engineer Kline of the U. S. Bureau of Mines of Denver and Ed Kickerman, engineer of the Western Machinery Co., also builder of the 1,000 ton zinc flotation mill at Leadville, were in Montezuma last week looking over the district as the possible location of a custom mill and sampler. They expressed themselves as being very much pleased with yhat they saw. Superior Mine Operating The Martlnette Mining Co., Clarence Martin, manager, has opened up the Superior mine. He has two shifts employing six men. Hugh Chisholm has charge of the mine work. They have just completed an overhead tram connecting the mine with the county road at the foot of the hill and they have a very good showing of ore. Burnett, Chase & Rogers have five men on the old Morgan property. They have opened up first class mill ore and find bunches of high grade shipping ore mixed in with the mill ore. Their values are In lead, zinc and silver. This is a first class milling proposition. With a pilot mill located on the dump it should be a property with large output. Old Bullion Mine Working George Goodman, operating the Bullion mine that has been idle for the past two years, is report ed to have five men. driving a crosscut to the Aorta vein which is said to show, rich ore in the old surface workings. The Bullion has been a shipper of high-grad- e ore direct to the smelter. It should be doing the same in the near future. Fullerton & Thorpe are opening up the Worthington mine above the St. Johns mine in St. Johns Gulch and report a good showing. The Summit County Lead & Zinc Co. vith Carl. Peterson superintendent, has four men working on the Ohio level of the old . - SAY (I Pennsylvania mine at Argentine. They are reported to have opened up ore running 200 ounces silver and high in lead. This mine made a marginal ore shipment in December. The mine was among early day producers and is expected to be a consistent shipper future. n. Makes Strike Florado n?r. During a temporary shutdown on the Florado Mine, Alexander & Wells opened a very nice ore body on the main tunnel level. F. R. Wolfle, manager of this property, has opened up ore in the bottom of a 100 foot winze he This St completed last fall. Johns property, now owned hy the Florado Company was in continuous operation with company work or leasers since its location in the early '70s. Mills & Dyer of Denver are the main drift on the Fisherman mine heading s'outh-weinto Bear Mountain. Alex Ryan has charge of the work with two men. This drift runs through lots of loose ground but Ryan is doing a nice clean piece of work.' In January 1942, with two men and single jacks took out close to $5,000 worth of ore in 90 days. This tunnel is going into a good hill and should show more of this kind of production in the near future. Leasing Operations' FOLKS Softyes CHANGE TAKE YOUR IN WAR STAMPS m CLBMRHNCE st hy SALE fiX. It should be one of our good producers here this coming summer. The Erickson mine, John Jefferies manager, is now equipped with compressor and all necessary tools and will resume operations as soon as the snow permits. Gladys Meadows has leased the Rose mine to some outside parties and it is understood that they are going to build a truck road from- Montezuma to this property in the early spring. Max Bunker, who has a lease CoMti-- y on the Ida Bell mine, has completed a first class truck road from highway.
