Show U2 fTKe Western Mineral Survey, Soft y (Prepared by Harold E. and Herbert L Cullen, un-dthe supervision of Thos. H. or Miller, Chief, Metal Economics Division, Economics and Statistics Service.) Domestic stocks of iron and steel scrap at consumers, suppliers', and producers plants at the end of November 1942 approximated 6,742,000 gross tons, representing an Increase of 8 per cent over, the 6,260,000 tons reported on Oct. 31, 1942, according to a statement released by the Bureau of Mines, United States Department of the Interior. Consumers stocks increased 10 per cent, while suppliers and producers' stocks declined less than 1 per cent Thus, while consumers stock on Nov. 30 amounted to 5,427,000 tons, compared with 4.938.000 tons at the end of October, suppliers' and producers' stocks were 1,315,000 tons and 1- 322.000 tons, respectively. The majority of the increase in total stocks was contributed by an increase of 11 per cent in stocks of purchased scrap at consumers' stocks plants, while consumers' of home scrap - gained approximately 6 per cent Summary of stocks of iron and steel scrap and pig iron at end of, and consumption during June, July, August, September, October, and November 1942, in gross tons. The total consumption of ferrous materials (scrap and pig iron) amounted to 8,761,000 gross tons during November, representing a decrease of 6 per cent from the 9,364,000 tons used in October. This decrease was not entirely due to the shorter month, as there was a definite decrease in furnace operations, the average daily melt being 3 per cent lower in November than in October, occasioned by declines of 4, 5, and 2 per cent in the average daily use of purchased Crfy, UtoH 5 creased 11 per cent, is an indi--cation that these sources of sup- ply are keeping their scrap flowing to consumers' plants. Consumption of , Scrap Iron, Scrap Steel, and Pig Iron ' Consumption of scrap in No1942 vember amounted to 4,401,-00- 0 a decline of 8 per tons,, gross cent from the 4,770,000 tons used in October,- - and at an annual rate of 2 per cent less than 1941.
