The Beehive Mining Co. of Salt Lake City, reports ore shipments from their Jackpot lease in Paradox Valley in Colorado. The ore shipments have increased from .11 per cent U308 to .21 per cent in the past three weeks, according to David H. Crockett, Beehive geologist. Vanadium content is running 4 per cent and is expected to go 0 per cent. The property was previously mined by Courad of Paradox with ore shipments assaying 2 per cent U308 and 7 per cent V205. The property lies on the Paradox fault in the west end of Paradox Valley, Ore. is in the Morrison formation. The operation is a open cut directly on the fault zone. According to Crockett, the ore zones have not been reached as yet. Drilling is preceding the open cut operation and drill holes are put into the fault zone to a depth 8-1- feet at a slight angle in order to cut the fault zone, he of 80-8- 5 said. Beehive Mining was organized in 1956 with Donald A. Cederlof as president and Eugene Cederlof as treasurer. Orval Turner as secretary. The company has 21 stockholders from Utah and Los Angeles. Crockett reports the company has $25,000 in equipment. There are four men at present operating the Jackpot claims in Colorado. Oil and gas have been produced in the Billy Creek anticline, but to date not elsewhere in the area. Coal beds, of. subbituminous rank ranging from 2.5 to 15 feet in thickness, underlie more than 100 square miles. Coal reserves are estimated to be more than one billion tons. A small manganese deposit and a deposit of allanite are present at the northern end of the Horn, a prominent structural and physiographic feature of the Bighorn Mountains. Bentonite beds are common in the Mowry shale and the Frontier formation. The report includes determinations of thickness, lateral variation, and relative age of stratigraphic units; present structural configuration and tectonic history of the area, extent, thickness, and attitude of numerous coal beds; and distribution, thickness and types of terrace deposits.
