Thats $1,200,000 in anybodys arithemetic. When a conservative outfit like Homestake makes such an offer, it speaks very highly of the future outlook both of Daybreak and the Spo- ores announced this week at Salt ake City by Bureau of Mines echnologists. The process has e proven effective in extracting uranium and the bureau announcement said hope is held out that eventually solvent extrac-io- n will provide entree into the e xeatment of very ores. A URANIUM PROCESSING PLANT for the Spokane area appeared a step nearer following between Newmont conference and Mining Corp. engineers Atomic Energy Commission officials both in Grand Junction, Colo., and here in Spokane. It is understood that current studies are aimed at arriving at a formal proposal to the AEC regarding the type and size of mill Newmont is willing to build here. A Newmont subsidiary, Dawn Mining Co., spent most of 1955 diamond drilling and blocking out ore reserves at the Midnite mine on the Spokane Indian Reservation Washingtons first uranium d. fault-terminat- ot PEND OREILLE MINES will become this areas largest ore producer this year, exceeding the Bunker Hill mine, if present plans are carried out. The firms annual report revealed plans to most output by about 50 per cent rom the 503,891 tons milled in 1955. Mining operations at the northeastern Washington propweek erty havq gone to a six-da- y :rom five days and the new East Side mill now is operating seven days a week instead of six as ormerly. If the price of zinc goes up, the company might start up its West Side mill, providing still greater production. Net smelter ship- per. But per ton costs still were only $3.17. st Microfilm Ready With Gas Info Engineering 250,000-barrell-per-da- information for a commercial to manufacture gasoline y plant and other products from western oil shales is given in a technical report which now can be viewed on microfilm by anyone interested in such a development. The report, prepared, by the Bureau of Mines, can be examined at the Library of Congress, the Departments library in Washington, D.C., and at the Bureaus Petroleum and Experiment Station, Laramie, Wyo. Copies can be purchased from the Librray of Congress for $2.90, Pace Foster, president of Gar-aInc., announced today that heir drilling program is well under way on their Trujillo Lease in Sierra County, New Mexico. The Trujilo properties consist of 480 acres of patented land located 12 miles Southeast of the own of Winston, New Mexico. Garpac has its own drill capable of reaching a depth of 2500 feet and various size holes up to eight incres, Foster said. Seven 120 foot holes have been drilled ;o date on the Trujillo properties on a grid pattern. Foster also stated that they are very enthusiastic over their Germanium properties located about four mileg from Ilermosa, c, N.M. Germanium is a rare metal bringing about $295.00 per pound in its pure state. There are very few known commercial deposits of Germanium, he said. The metal is used in the manufacture of guided missiles and reactors and for television production. A 42 foot shaft has been sunk previously on the Germanium claims and a study is now being made of the samples taken from the exposed vein. According to Foster, Garpac also expects to start immediately to establish a contract custom exploration, development, mining and milling business; engineering and geological service; and a retail sales business carrying a complete line of mining supplies and service. A mine developed in part of a California iron deposit which was outlined several years ago by two Interior Department agencies now provides 2V million tons of ore a year required for blast furnaces of the Kaiser Steel Corporations Fontana, Calif., plant. Details of methods and equipment used in planning, developing and operating the Eagle Mounmine in Riverside tain open-pi- t County are included in a new lublication, one of a series prepared by the Bureau of Mines to ceep industry informed of new developments. Although the possibility of the Eagle Mountain area as a source of iron ore was recognized more that 50 years ago and some tondenage was shipped, large-scal- e until follow not did velopment after the Bureau of Mines and the Geological Survey conducted an exploratory program in 1941 and 1942. Property has already been leased for this purpose at Truth or Consequences, N.M. Garpac, Inc. have recently opened an additional office at 2419 South Fifth Street, Las Vegas, Nevada. The report describes the elaborate preparations made for planning and opening the mine, in- trenching, cluding and tunneling in addition to that done by the Government, together with geological studies, core-drillin- g, surveying, and topographic mapping. It tells how the information gained enabled the companys engineers to locate the truck roads, the crushing plant, the stockpiling and shipping facilities, and the waste disposal areas for max- imum efficiency. The methods, equipment, and materials used for drilling, blasting, and loading are described fully, including such details as using steel casing in blast holes and later recovering it for reuse, placing power shovels so that the moment one truck is loaded an other is in position for loading, t and selecting an effective lining for truck bodies Crushing, stockpiling, and ship wear-resistan- ping facilities also are explained by the author, R.
