This announcement came from the Grand Junction Operations office of the Atomic Energy Commission this week. Approximately 960 acres of public land in the Calf Mesa area, Emery county, and 17,920 acres of public land in the Deer Flats area of San Juan county, Utah have been released from AEC withdrawal. The properties were withdrawn from location of mining claims in June, 1953, by an AEC application filed with the Bureau of Land management. The application for withdrawal was canceled by the Commission because no significant uranium deposits were found during exploration activities. Persons contemplating prospecting and locating mining claims in the areas are urged by the AEC to check the records of the Land Office, Bureau of Land Management in Salt Lake City to ascertain whether the lands are otherwise open to prospecting and location of mining claims. They should also check, the AEC said, on the existence of prior mining claims in the areas. The released lands are de. scribed as follows: Calf Mesa area, Emery County, Utah, Salt Lake Meridian. District Court at Cheyenne late last week in the case of Charles M. Coleman of Chicago and Riverton Uranium Co. of Wyoming vs. Mountain Mesa and others. Counsel for Mountain Mesa said the effect of the summary judgment is to terminate the litigation involving any claim by the Coleman interests. The finding of the court in the summary judgment sustained the position of Mountain Mesa that Coleman and Riverton Uranium had no interest in the mining contract nor any of the properties owned or leased by Mountain Mesa. The litigation arose out of mining contracts between Mountain Mesa and San Juan Uranium ExThe businessman will get an ploration, Inc., of Denver, in133 uranium claims the in tour of Utahs uravolving Gas Hills and Crooks Gap areas nium and natural gas resources in Fremont County, Wyoming. this weekend.
