It was in 1944 that J. C. Lincoln, president of the Lincoln Electric Company, acquired control of Bagdad Copper Corporation and appointed E. R. Dickie as general manager. Since then, nine years have passed and millions of dollars have been expended to bring the Bagdad property up to a dividend paying operation. During this period, Bagdad has mined over 10,000,000 tons of ore from which approximately pounds of copper were re covered. In other words, only 15 pounds of copper (together with small amounts of gold, silver and Molybdenum) were recovered per ton of ore treated. Despite such a low and profitless operation, Bagdad has paid the state a production, or severance, tax on its output throughout its producing history. It has enriched the state and nation with the production of 151,000,000 pounds of indestructible copper and in so doing has furnished remunerative employment to hundreds of Arizonas citizens. The Bagdad mine is the smallest low-graof the big copper mines in Arizona. It is situated in the Eureka district, western Yavapai county, 27 miles by road from Hillside, a station on the Santa Fe railway. Bagdid camp is on Copper Creek. Producers hope for early action in Washington in reference to the tariff question and the governments plan for stockpiling zinc. Domestic producers believe that a strong case has been made for a restoration of the duty, but it is feared that the administration may not go all the way in granting extra protection. There has been no hint at the tonnage that will be absorbed from existing stocks for the stockpile. .... I .... it ...... Plainview Reeves Mad) Sheep Creek . . . Signal SI1 a :j1 t Bowl i Sfl.
