Government Officials Stress Need for Exploration Work Purchase of Lead Gains; Zinc Declines The foreign copper market remained unsettled and confused this week, despite government action to start Chilean copper moving again to this country and officials of the national production authority met with tiie copper industry advisory committee recently in an effort to iron out some of the remaining difficulties. Resumption of imports of Chilean copper, halted on May 9, is expected to result from an order by the office of price stabilization permitting U. S. brass and wire mills to buy foreign copper at whatever price they are willing to pay and then fnarking up the prices of their products tfo cover a large part of their higher costs. U. S. fabricators had been paying the U. S. ceiling price of cents a pound for foreign 27 copper and Chile withdrew its offerings, saying this price was too low; How high the Chilean price will go remains to be determined. The 33 --cent figure was mentioned by" many market authorities, but buyers and sellers continued to sit tight to await developments. TruMeanwhile, President man authorized the release of 22,000 tons of copper from the stockpile of strategic materials to make up .for the current deficit in the proected copper supply which has been caused by tiie strike of copper workers in Chile and the embargo on shipments of copper from that coun- try. The new pricing order will mean that foreign copper will .02 92 be priced on a free market basis .12 Tlntlc Standard 100 1.37 135 and it is expected to. start a 10.000 West Toledo 5000 .13 n Oil J?,. .03 0l by domestic producers 8.(Exchange closed Saturdavs during clamor Utah Con 3.20 a for higher price for their proJune.
