Leisk, general manager at Kellogg, Idaho. While Sunshine was originally established in Spokane, this is the first time it has had an office here since control passed to the Sawbridge interests of Yakima in the early 20s. Sunshine has disposed of its Oregon, Alaska and Colorado interests and until a new venture is undertaken will concentrate on its operations in the silver belt of the Coeur dAlenes. Oil Test Reaches Great Depth FORT Okla. The man-madeepest lole, a wildcat oil well five miles north of here in Caddo County, stood Saturday at 17,823 feet otal depth and was being drilled no deeper. The hole was drilled by the Superior Oil Co. of California, which has declined to release any information on the test other than its total depth. It is the No. 51-Weller. The previous depth record was held by the Pacific Western Oil Co.s National Royalties No. 1 well at 16,668 feet in the Lost Hills west of Bakersfield, Calif. Third deepest is the Phillips Co. well in Brazos County, Texas, at 16,655 feet With less than seven per cent of the worlds population, the United States has 81 per cent of the- worlds passenger automobiles, and 57 per cent of all trucks. The Coeur dAlene Mines Corp. has completed a shaft to the 2800 foot level 6500 feet east of the Polaris development and is driving a long crosscut which will open 4500 feet of unproven potential mineral territory. This company has a vein of rich sil- ver ore developed and in production down to the 2000 level. The American Smelting & Refining Co. is engaged in sinking a shaft in Lake Gulch just wen of Wallace and about 2 miles east of the Coeur dAlene Mines development. This shaft has an objective at 3000 feet or approximately sea level. Hecla Mining Co. has a large block of mineralacquired ground on Rock Creek midway between Wallace and Mullan and about three 'miles east of the AS&R development Considering the past history of the company, the prospecting of this territory can be expected in the near future. Bunker Hill Se Sullivan also has a deep development program in preparation for which they have expended a large amount of money in new hoisting equipment and which, when completed, will make the Bunker Hill the deepest mine in the district. All of this deep work, exclusive of Bunker Hill and Sunshine, is in unproven territory but is on the strike of the known rich ore deposits. That portion of the district east of Wallace has not even been mapped or geologized, but the U. S, Geographical Survey plans to do the job during the current season. Bureau of Mines on lead and zinc deposits in New Mexare ico, Utah and Wisconsin described in three separate publications made available for general distribution today by R. R Sayers. Under authorization of the Strategic Materials Act of 1939 and later legislation, the Bureau of Mines conducted an extensive wartime mineral development The program. investigations made by Bureau engineers and metallurgists achieved the twofold objective of increasing national reserves of strategic fuels and metals and of providing important information on domestic mineral reserves. Publication of the reports was not feasible during the war, but they are now being released as rapidly as possible to the public and the minerals industries. The three reports released today are as follows; Report of Investigations 4072, Ophir Hill Consolidated Lead-ZiMine, Tooele County, Utah, by Frank L. Wideman, Bureau mining engineer. operations conducted by the Bureau of Mines at the Ophir Hili property in June,' 1945, are described in the publication. Numerous maps showing the locations of the drill holes as well as detailed data on the drilling operations are included in the publication. Report of Investigations 4073. DisSteeple Rock Zinc-Letrict, Grant County, N. Mex., by P. L. Russell, Bureau mining engineer. To help increase the production of zinc, lead and copper in the Steeple Rock district, the Bureau of Mines explored the area by crosscutting, channel sampling and diamond drilling. The investigations failed to disclose any additional ore bodies.' Report of Investigations 4083; Zinc Deposits of the Tennyson District, Grant County, Wis., by G. A. Apell, Bureau mining engineer. In the summer of 1945, Bureau engineers conducted an investigation and churn-drilliprogram near Tennyson in Grant County.; The survey revealed the existence of a tine deposit of considerable interest, the publication states. Results of the drilling operations together with analyses of ore samplings taken from the district are given in the report Work on these projects was conducted by the Mining Branch of the Bureau with the assistance of the Federal Geological Survey. .
