Show 2 . Demand for U. S. Crude At High Level m 08$ The amount of domestic crude petroleum estimated by the Bureau of Mines to meet the demand in January, 1947, is 4,640,-00- 0 barrels - daily. This forecast contains no recommendations as to desirable rates of crude production or of changes in crude stocks, but is an estimate of probable requirements based on actual current trends in the demand for all products and adjustments fdr seasonal changes in refined stocks. Actual figures for October show a crude production of 4,- 785.000 barrels daily, a demand for domestic crude oil of 4,790,-0barrels daily, and total runs to stills of foreign and domestic crude of 4,736,000 barrels daily. Current estimates indicate that the demand for domestic crude oil may amount to about 4,660,-00- 0 barrels daily in November, 4.710.000 barrels daily in December and that demand for the last quarter of 1946 will approximate the bureaus cumulative forecast of 4,726,000 barrels daily. Stocks of refined oils amounted to 228,000,000 barrels at the end of October. A small decline is indicated in November and a sharp drop in December. The total demand for motor fuel amounted to 69.3 million barrels in October and apparently is exceeding expectations in November and December. Total demand for motor fuel in the last quarter of 1946 was forecast in the December report at 192 million barrels but may exceed that amount by 3 per cent on the basis of current figures available. This increase reflects the effect of mild weather, a Shortage in rail transport facilities and a larger number of motor, vehicles in operation than had been estimated.
