Karate Class Is Offered KEARNS. An interest in karate, spurred at least in part by the popularity of The Karate Kid, has resulted in a dramatic increase in enrollment in karate classes at Kearns Community School according to coordinator Joe Rickards. From a class of 25 when it was initiated in 1985, the program has grown to include three classes, with about 100 participants ranging in age from seven to 47, he said. Instructors Howard and Lori Smith, have been teaching Taekwon Do, a form of karate, for six years, said Rickards. Both have first degree black belts, and plan to become second degree black belts by the end of July. Unlike the show, there is no physical contact or competitiveness in the classes, he noted. The program is designed to teach self defense, mental and physical self control, flexibility, agility and self confidence, he added. Those interested in signing up for or learning more about this program, or about other courses offered at the community school, may call Rickard at Congratulations to: Amy by Cindy Smith s X4X6 FLAT TOP 1X4X6 DOG EAR Reg. 79 Now Reg. 89 Now 1X6X6 FLAT TOP Reg.
