This saying is absolutely appropriate when it comes to the education and opportunities now available to those people who are deaf or suffer a hearing loss. Not so long ago, children with this handicap had to go to special schools which were usually not near home, and were only able to be with their families on weekends. Legion Post 32 Schedule April Activities 1 The American Legion Kearns Post hold a meeting at 7:30 tonight (Thursday) at the Post home. The meeting will take the place of the regular meeting scheduled for tomorrow, owing to the District convention to be held this weekend in Wendover. Members of Post 132 running for District office include Duane Willis, for commander; Shirley Christoffer-son- , for president; John Boatman, for 2nd vice president. A party for past presidents will be held at noon on April 14 at the home of Mane Mitchell. An Auxiliary meeting will be held at 7:30 on April 17. Easter will be celebrated with an outing at Camp Floyd, April 18 and 19 and members are being invited to bring their families. An Easter egg hunt for children will be held Sunday. Anyone wishing for further information may call Lou or Marsha Montoya, A joint Legion and Auxiliary meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. April 24. The Four Comers beauty pageant and convention will take place April 25, with golf at 10:30 a.m., dinner at 7 p m., followed by the pageant and a dance. Cost will be $14 per person. The Post home will be closed April 10 through 13 for District convention. Dart games are being held every Tuesday evening, and a special dinner is served every Tuesday. 132 will Suburban Art Club To Now, thanks to the dedication of many teachers, parents and interested parties, children may attend schools close to home just like their brothers, sisters and other kids in the neighborhood. In this area, many youngsters are able to attend special extension programs from the School for the Deaf at Longview elementary. These youngsters begin as early as preschool and continue through the elementary grades. When they reach junior high age, classes are available for them atHillcrest jr. high. Special entertainment is now also available to the deaf, and we will be receiving a special group of people from Montana State University. The group is called The Theater of Silence. Their director Jack Olson, emphasizes, the Theater of Silence is for both the deaf and the hearing as they perform to a prepared tape of music and words. Signs and gestures are emphasized but words are also spoken. The intrigue is that the audience not only hears the words, but sees them too. This Saturday, April 11, at River- - Attend Organ Recital HEADACHES Women of Suburban Arts club will attend an organ recital as their monthly session tonight (Thursday) at 8 oclock. Club members will go to the home of the artist, Lila Butterfield, at 3873 Goldfinch, for the muscial concert. The Theater of Silence has been viewed by audiences throughout the Western United States and Canada. The group is best known for the power and beauty of their performing style and their simple message of love for the deaf. They are recognized as one of the major theaters for the deaf in the United States and annually travel 15,000 miles on their tour. Their group blends the language of sign with music, dance, mime and literature.
