Show ymr 2B frftrMafrwfly Thursday, Feb. 5, 1981 Out Our VJindov . . . Dear Womens Editor, am writing in regards to Ethel in the January 29, 1981 edition of the Green Sheet. I would appreciate your printing my letter in your newspaper. I always turn to Ethels column first. It seems like I can always relate to her column in one way or another. Awhile back, there was a column about Ethels grandson in a runaway car incident. Our own little boy was involved in a similar situation. I, too, felt the terror, the disbelief and finally the thankfulness that our little boys life had been spared and we had him back safe and sound. I called Ethel on the phone and told her how very glad I was that her grandson was safe and sound too. In her most recent column, there was a feeling of letdown. All week long, I agree with Ethel, there was information on T.V., magazine, paper and radio about the return of the hostages. EM B vtdleHd opened my freezer the other day and there, right in front of me, was a UFO! Yes, right there on the shelf . . . right in my home . . . and it didn't suddenly disappear, either. I Bradfords column I Go look in your freezer and if there is a UFO nestling cozily on your shelf, too. In fact, if you really want the truth of the matter . . . I found over a dozen in my see ... freezer. mean Oh, you don't know what meant one of by UFO? Thought those things that fly the night skies and wink at you? Blink at you? Hover over you and scare the day lights out of you? I I some kind of system to keeping a freezer in workable shape. Oh, my freezer works, but I mean the food that is inside of it. It's such an ideal way to keep food that it's terrible so much of it turns if that kind of into UFO's. And thing doesn't happen to you and your appliance (which the nice salesman said would end all my storage troubles) you are of a dif ferent breed than I. ... I know it would end all problems, but . . . Ethel beI don't have a ing Ethel system. Cooked eggs (which I swore I'd eat within a week) turn out to be rubber. Potatoes turn mushy. Anything with milk in it is curdled and salad becomes dressing something you hastily put down the disposal. ... No, no, my dears, my kind of UFO's are of quite a different ilk. Mine are commonas "Unidentified ly known Frozen Objects." of Yeah, I know. Your freezer is full them, too. Cuss, cuss. cuss. I that tomb any given as I open the door, some elf has been good deed and shelves with hopefully of a night, and pray that doing his filled my go to goodies. I is a know there should be 7 w?e A Draft Notice? Nope, you're the same as A freezer full of food. Good food when I put it in, too. But now? g. ? by Connie Sample was being drafted thought when I saw the envelope from the White House! laughs Helen Schneider Cushing. It was really a surprise! However, it wasnt a draft notice Helen received but a Happy Birthday card. And it was straight from President and Mrs. Carter. The card reads: Happy Birthday! We are pleased to send you our best regards. May your day be special and may all your wishes come true in the year ahead.- It is signed by Rosalyn Carter and Jimmy Carter. I Oh me. I gnash me teeth and growl as realize that next month, next year and the next year, too, will find me with a freezer full of UFO's, "Unidentified Frozen Objects." Cuss, cuss, cuss. Always serve the oldest one first, keeping everything fresh, tasty, and in prime eating, and serving condition. Yes, that is exactly what I am going to do. I inside lump. Uty I He never has. All see before me are shelves of odd shaped packages. I pick them up one at a time, shake them, hold them to my ear, heft them in my hands, hoping against hope that in some way the secret of "What is Inside?" will be revealed. Sometimes I play my own brand of Russian Roulette and choose one package and decide I will have it for my meal. That is an unwise thing to do, my loves, if you don't have something for a backup, for, too often, all I find H I ... never be overdone. This nation needed a common denominator to pull everyone together - together m love, caring and hope and progress in the future. I agree there were other occasions for celebration, and the return of the Viet Nam veterans was certainly one of them; however, maybe right now, right this very minute, everyone felt this compelling need to be a part of something good, something positive, something euphoric and something American. Maybe thats why there was all the publicity about the return of the hostages. Ethel stated, No, let there be no more words. That story, Thank God, is over. I feel it should be reworded to state, Thank God for that story. A story that brought unity back to the people of the United States.
