Show THE WEST MOUNTAIN TIMES, NOVEMBER 26, 1981, PAGE FOUR At Our Churches HOLY TRINITY BIRTHS WESTVALE PRESBYTERIAN Con Skedros, West High School teacher and lecturer on Utahs Greek heritage, will join Father Milton Gianulis of Holy Trinity Church to discuss Greek Orthodox doctrine and the development of the Greek community in Salt Lake City. Their presentation, sponsored by the White Community Memorial Chapel Foundation, w ill take place on Dec. 6, 1981 at the White Community Memorial Chapel, ISO East 300 North, Salt Lake City, it is the second in a series of eight free public lectures on The Religious Communities of Utah: An Historical Perspective. Utahs First Greek immigrants came to the state after the turn of the century, offering cheap labor in mines, railroads, mills and smelters. Although a sizeable Greek community grew up in towns from Price and Tooele to Salt Lake City, for many years there remained only one Greek Orthodox church to serve the expanding Greek populace. The series, scheduled for the First Sunday of each month, was launched in November by Monsignor Jerome Stof-fl- e of the Roman Catholic Church. will Future feature presentations programs by representatives of the Jewish, Buddhist, Congregational, Mormon, Baptist and Episcopal faiths. Funded in part for a grant from the Utah Endowment for the Humanities, the series is designed to promote increased understanding and cooperation among the religious communities of Utah. All lectures will begin at 7 p.m. A discussion period and refreshments will follow each presentation. MAGNA COMMUNITY MAGNA The Church Board met last Saturday night for review and planning. A primary project now is the rewriting and adopting of a new constitution. Nominations for church ofFiccrs are now being made in preparation for the annual meeting of the church in January. Thursday, Nov. 26: A most blessed and thankful Thanksgiving to all. The Church is giving prayer and some material help where needed. Friday, Nov. 27: movie, The Carpenter, 7 p.m. at the church. Sunday, Nov. 29, at 9:30 a.m., church school begins. At 10:43 a.m.( church worship. The service will feature Christmas music, the lighting of the first candle of the Christmas wreath, and a message from the pastor all in Good News entitled celebration of the Fust Sunday in Advent. At 6 p.m., the Church will have a potluck supper and receive a visit from Area Executive Rev. Robert Smith, from Twin Falls, Idaho, who will provide information and inspiration. A Christmas Church service will follow at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 Advent communion service and stewardship enlistment. At noon a sandwich luncheon will be followed by church decorating and the hanging of the greens. Dec. 12 The Church women will hold their annual bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations of baked goods, crafts, jewelry, white elephants, etc. accepted. Everyone is invited. Thanksgiving time for SunWEST VALLEY CITY-T- his day, Nov. 29, Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m. with classes for all ages from nursery to adult. Church is at 1 1 a.m. This is the First Sunday of Advent. The main sermon topic is Season of Hope. The childrens' message will be An Advent Alphabet. This is the First lesson in a series of four childrens messages to help Christians to prepare for Christmas from A to Z. Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. at the church will be the First in a series of Advent Bible studies. The name of the series is Christ Comes Among Us. The series will run for the next four weeks, concluding on Dec. 20. Anyone who wants to attend is welcome. We commend him and those in the Congress who approved legislation authorizing such a proclamation. If homes are families pray, play, work and worship together, the nation and individuals will reap blessings beyond measure. We urge all Americans to support programs and policies which will strengthen homes and families, and to make every week a family week in their own lives. Born June II, 1888 in Mound Valley, Franklin County, Idaho, to Alma H. and Ellen V. Clark Hale. Married Rucl M. Barrus Dec. 22, 1909 in the Logan LDS Temple. He died November 7, 1963. Member, D.U.P.
