Show .THE WEST MOUNTAIN TIMES, NOVEMBER 26, 1981, PAGE SEVEN I am often amazed at the number of players and coaches who make excuses for their inability to perform. The loss of a game or a poor effort on any occassion will usually bring a profusion of alibis and many qualified reasons why the team was defeated or why the player performed poorly. The world is full of athletes who coulda, shoulda, and woulda", but there are few teams or individuals who will stand up after a defeat, hold their head up high and simply say, we lost. The vanquished always seem to find a scapegoat for their losses. It may be the coach, another player or one of the officials but surely the loser himself could net be at fault. Excuses come in all sizes, all colors and various degrees of truthfulness. If you're looking for an excuse, one is as good as another. The Cougars will also be bringing more height into the game than last year, and this could be a deciding factor on how well they will do in region. Coach Clark said he felt that the team to beat this year in region would be Alta. The Hawks had a lot of good juniors and sophomores last year and should prove to be very tough again this year. Other than Alta, Coach Clark said he expects no other team to dominate. "We have a good opportunuy to finish high this year," he said. The Cougars have been practicing for about three weeks now in preparation for the opening game Friday against Vicwmont. Coach Clark said the team has been having great practices with a lot of enthusiasm. He thinks the great spirit is a carryover from the football season. He also said Kearns has never been a team.
