Show WEEKLY -- REFLEX-DAV- NEWS JOURNAL. OCTOBER 6. 1977 IS pm By DAVE WIGHAM How Many Will Go players from Bountiful and from Viewmont High will be playing ball. No, not this years players but alumni from both schools will be involved in a football game. By DAVE WIGHAM Each week the experts in the realm of high school football note that they dont believe any team will go undefeated in region play this year. That means both Regions One and Four. IF YOU recall last year there was an alumni football game between the two schools with the proceeds going to charity. Well some of the players thought they had a pretty good club so they called some of the junior colleges and some of the big schools to try to line up some games. Well this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. this group of alumni will be hosting the junior varsity team from Utah State University. Thats right, the big boys from Cache Valley will be coming down. Not the varsity club but their youngsters that the Aggies will be counting on in future years. d CURRENTLY THERE are still three teams, two in Region One and one in Region Four, that have shots at the unblemished record. True there is a long way to go, but three teams still have shots at it. In Region Four, the Davis Dart team has things rolling for them again this season. The Darts have beaten tough squads like Ogden and Box Elder. Probably the only team left on their schedule that could ruin the perfect mark would be Ben Lomond. The Scots definitely have the talent and manpower to take that game. THEN IN Region One you have Bountiful and Layton. The two clubs collide in a couple of weeks on the Lancer field so you know only one of them, if any, will go undefeated. LAST YEAR the alumni game was pleasant, everyone had a good time, no one was trying to prove they still had the old high school moves. But many of these guys havent played very much ball in the past few years and to face up Both have played about the same schedule. Both barely beat Bonneville both upended Clearfield. The Braves have beaten Roy while the Lancers played them earlier in the week after this column was written. The Lancers b'it Viewmont, the Braves and the Vikes also met on Wednesday. 6-- AFTER THIS week, and not counting the game with each other, both clubs will be favored in their games. The Braves have yet to play Weber and Sky View, not but definitely underdogs to the Bountiful club. give-meThe Lancers have to play Weber and Sky View also, against freshmen that have been playing for the past several years could prove interesting. The game is still a little bit of a mystery to many people, this reporter included, in that the word hasnt really been spread about the contest. The local do have some good players, at least they were several years ago when they played for their respective schools, and only time will tell how they will hold up against but again also underdogs to the SO AS it looks now, if both clubs got by with their games this week, Roy at Layton and Bountiful hosting Viewmont, as they are favored to do, then the only thing that looks like they wont go undefeated is when they meet each other. This reporter thinks the one that wins the big one against each other will definitely go undefeated. The other school will have to settle for one loss. the youngsters. VIEWMONT High has such County Awards prestigious alumni as Kevin Jensen, Mike Belnap and Rob Vandergrif. Belnap played major college ball for Utah, Vandergrif played a couple of years for a junior college. There is a rumor that Tim Eden and Rodger Berry will be there up from junior Cids On Lifted Courts Bids for four lighted tennis courts at Davis County Memorial Park at Fruit Heights was awarded late last week to Security Development and Fence Company of Ogden. The contracts do not specify the exact closing date because weather conditions make that impossible. DAVIS County Commissioners accepted the low bid of $28,190, but said the county will do the grading, the base and the asphalt work. Commissioner C.E. Moss said the bid will allow the county about $8,000 to provide the money needed for the preparatory work. The $36,000 that has been earmarked for the project will be provided by the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation and the BOR county. Each will share half of the cost. The league officials are hoping for six teams, the rosters should be handed in at the Recreation Center. He has contributed a lot to the very successful start that the Cougars have gotten off to this year. Billmire is entering his final year. Hes been a regular for four years with the Weber State people. A couple of weeks ago he enjoyed the best night of his career with a night against Portland State in which he rushed for 140 yards on 17 carries, including a touchdown run.
