Show WEEKLY REFLEX-DAV- IS NEWS JOURNAL, FEBRUARY 19, 1976 Students at Hilltop Elementary School celebrated the bicentennial with a special program recently. Taking part were students of the third through sixth grades. SPECIAL BIRTHDAY depicting Speeches memorable periods of history were given by Carolyn Moore, Paulette Martinez, Sami Swider and Susie Ames. Lonnie Chiles and Joe Boyette concluded the speeches. The loud clear voices of the third grade rang out in song after each speech glorifying that period. the The four services, Army, the Navy, the Marines and the Air Force were honored by four uniformed each boys representing branch and the third grade chorus proudly singing each of their respective songs. Following the tribute to our armed services were speeches given by Mikole Hunt, Cheryl Thompson and Paul Stevens. The audience then joined the third and sixth grades in the singing of the Star Spangled Banner. special birthday cake was part of the bicentennial program at Hilltop Elementary School. A An impressive program was presented to the Hilltop School by the third and sixth grades the afternoon of February 9th and then again the following evening for the PTA. The program began with a flag ceremony performed by Jimmy Junior Esser, Figueroa and Fred Goodman and Billy Skiliman. The third grade students gave their interpretation of the Pledge of Allegiance. The climax of the performance was a gigantic, beautiful, patriotic cake wheeled all alit with sparklers in honor ofAmericas200yearbirthday, as the grades on stage burst out in song singing Happy Birthday America. It stirred up a feeling of great pride for our country. May our patriotism not end there, but bum brightly and proudly in everything we do. Mrs. Lanes third grade singers were David Anthony, James Bruan, Michael Buchanan, Neil Caldwell, John Carter, Kraig Firhurst, Max Greenland, Carey Hambrick, Kevin King, Earl Mellinger, Edward Noll, Tim Montoya, Scott Mount, David Perkins, Clay Shook, Paul Steven, Dennis Turner, Keith Stewart, Deon Becham Nina Bernarde, Candy Carlisle, Shirlaine Goodman, Tine Hadley, Charisse Priest, Wendy Roll, Nancy Spencer, Michelle Walther and Linda Warden. Mr. Beesleys sixth grade did an exceptionally fine job on the scenery. It gave the program a most patriotic set- ting. Mr. Sill concluded the program by reading some of the students essays on patriotism.
