County ComC. missioner Eugene Ford underscored the need of exceptional precaution in the prevention of fires in the North Balt Iuke district of Davis county, Sunday, and pointed to the fact thut hydrant water is not available to combat fires in this area. He said that the only water available to fight fires would have to come from either fire truck pumper boosters or canals and streams. Early Saturday morning, an inadequate water supply forced the Bountiful firemen to stand and it watch the Viva motel occuburn itself out. Thirty-fiv- e pants of the frame cabins escaped injury, but suffered loss of all personal belongings when the flames ten-un- forced them into the zero temperatures of early morning. It was believed that the fire started in a boiler room and swept through t he dwellings before an alarm could be turned in. Charles A. Trump, chief of the Bountiful volunteer fire department We had to conserve watstated: er in our pumper engine in case the wind changed and endangered other structures. That was the only water available, and as much as we hated it, we had to watch the motel burn. He said that where a stream or canal is present adequate water can be pumped from these sources. A move is underway to obtain a hydrant system for Tire fighting, hut the date when it will be operating is undetermined.
