H Court Club By Clay Allred This is the second in a series of articles on community planning by Clay Allred, consultant for the Davis county Planning Commission. Better ways to do the job are always welcome but here is how it is done now. Your town or' county officials appoint a few civic minded citizens to a planning commission. Unpaid and unprofessional though they may be, these citizens have only the betterment of their community in mind. Legally appointed planning commissions have the right to employ expert planners and a staff to carry out and Suggest ways and means of making a better community in which to live. Like your storekeeper, professional planners need to make an inventory of what your community now has before they can tell you what you yet need. Economic inventories are fundamental, as is population, land use and . other existing conditions, as might be had from maps, etc. The second step is then ready to be thought about the future. "Horse and buggy planning in an airplane and atomic energy age does not reflect our degree of civilization. Brigham Youngs wisdom would have told him to do whatever changing times dictated. However, we havent even laid our a system of roads for our communities to grow by since his day. Your county planning commission is prepared to do that, plus keeping abreast and ahead of times. Over-al- l plans for parks, schools, commercial, agricultural and residential growth are made on a master plan in order that the puzzle might fit and make the picture as we proceed to build it. Water needs, sewer systems, the amount of land we devote to successful business, etc., are all parts of the study. Project planning, however, is not the job of a planning commission. Theirs is the job of knowing how and where to fit each piece of the puzzle to make the picture look right in the end. . jig-sa- Dedicatory Rites Robinson Family Conducted at Clark Reunion 100 Court club met Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Wayne Adams, with Mrs. Everett Meade as assisting hostess.
