INDUSTRIAL PREPAREDNESS The Committee on Industrial Preparedness has issued a statement describing what has been done or is being done in the various states for the mobilization of industries. The fentire United States, except Hawaii, has been organized; many of the states have been divided into districts or counties, with chief field aids in charge. The astonishing adaptability of industries when properly inventoried and organized has been demonstrated during the present war in Europe; a dye factory, for example, was transformed in ten days into a plant for the production of high explosives. The Chamber of Commerce of the. United States has started a new movement for the avowed purpose of wiping out war profits and interests so that the government will be able at maximum efficiency and minimum cost to obtain munitions, transportation, .the mobilization of supplies, etc. ,on a huge scale. The basis of the scheme is that leading manufacturer, should voluntarily relinquish large profits and marshal their resources .at minimum eost for the Benefit of the government There is also to be a system of industrial arsenals located on the principal traffic arteries of the United States; these arsenals instead of housing munitions and ordnance, will be storage places for working plans for the production of munitions on a large scale. that Uncle Alexander Dawson, the grand old Scotchman, is still confined to his home, suffering from paralysis.
