UTAH, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 1916 DAVIS AND WEBER COUNTIES CANAL EXTENSION CONSIDERED 1 Lengthened Ditch Will Enhance The Value of Hundreds of Acres - - - Countv terminus on the Thomley homestead, ntgtheast of Layton, to Haights Bench, south of Kaysville, is receiving earnest consideration. Now that the water shares can be secured from the Davis and Weber Counties Canal company at a nominal price, and that an abundance of water is assured from the big East Canyon reservoir, a majority of the land owners under the Haights Creek Irrigation system are strongly in favor of the proposition. As has been repeatedly pointed out by The Reflex the lands east and south of Kaysville have only a limited water supply from the canyon streams, which "is not suffi- cient lot growing such crops as sugar. beets, tomatoes and other late maturing crops. The quality of this land is as fine as any in the Salt Lake valley and is ideally located as to transportation, location and surface drainage. When location and quality of will pracsoil is considered the tically treble in value when provided with a full water supply. A meeting of land owners, favorable to the project will be held within the next few days, at which time the matter of ditch extension and water supply will be thoroughly canvassed and considered. From present indications the Haights Creek Irrigation company will have to take the inita-tiv- e in the matter, as the ditches of the company already cover the greater portion of the land sought to be furlaVid . consideration, The Kaysville Irrigation company followed this same method several years ago, .when the company purchased Davis and Weber Counties Canal stock for the land in West Kaysville, west of the Oregon Short Line tracks, and the water shares purchased at that time are nowjthe most valuable asset of the company. Itis safe to predict that water purchased at this time would prove as valuable an asset of the Haights Creek company, and that the shares would advance in price almost within the next three or fourycars. The water now owned by the Haights Creek company would also remain a valuable asset to present canyon Water could be used on the foothill lands above the canal extension, just as was the condition which came about when the Kaysville Irrigation com- one-fourt- h Oregon Short Line right of way. The Kays Creek Irrigation company of Layton has created an indebtedness almost equal to that w'hich will be required for this extension and water purchase, in the construction of reservoirs alone, and the wisdom of the action can be seen by traveling over the country east and northeast of Layton. To delay in this matter means disaster, because of the fact that the Dans and Weber Counties Canal stocky will be sold just as soon as possible, and once it is disposed of perhaps there will never be another opportunity to secure an ample water supply for these lands. The time is now ripe for this great step forward. Davis county is fast coming into her own. The past three years have been years of great progress in Davis county and the proposed ditch extension would be the crowning event in the present era of with late water. Just at this time arrangements are being made to make all the secondary stock of the Davis and Weber Counties Canal company primary stock, and sufficient stock lean be secured from the company to furnish a full water supply for the land under the proposed extension. It is estimated that the ditch can be constructed complete progress, "with flumes and all appurtenances for Now is the accepted time to put about 142.50 for each acre of land the proposition through. Delay is under the project, which would be very dangerous. nished The recorder was authorized to era ploy sufficient help in revising the as- -, COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MEETING sessors plats.
