Show WEEKLY REFLEX DAVIS NEWS JOURNAL, JUNE 1 , 1 978 I fi Hfe xrrr j ifflt- Youth Program HAFB Young people ages 12 to 15 years, from the surrounding area, are urged to sign up for the Hill Air Force Base youth program which is to take place at HAFB June INTERESTED youth can sign up at the Sunset city building between the hours of Sam to 3 30 p m and are asked to obtain written consent from their parents that they will not hold sponsoring parties liable in case of injury or accident and bring such with them when they come to register The youth who plan to participate in the program are also asked to wear grubbies and to bring towels and swim suits with them vw 12-1- 6 Hew Coach Picked For Bountiful Eiinh Braves By DAVE WIGHAM The fourth coaching change involving basketball coaches m Region One was announced a short while ago when Mike Hall was named the new head mentor at Bountiful High COACH HALL replaces John Robison as the head man for basketball at the Brave school Hall becomes the fourth basketball coach at the school in the past eight years It all began when Jon ODell resigned after a successful career to go into private business Joe Johnson was then named coach until he resigned after a two year stint to also go into private business At that time Coach Robison was named the head man veterinarian This year he has been in a program at Weber State ( olltge, but is considering looking for a scholarship in rodeo at a larger out of state university next year Id like to be something besides a i owbov, hut I do make a lot of money Bt sides I m free and not tied down to work at one COACH HALL was an outstanding high school athlete at South High in Salt Lake City competing in football, basketball and baseball As a Cub he won honors in both basketball and baseball From high school Mike went to Weber State College in Ogden and played both basketball and baseball for the Wildcats After two years of basketball Mike concenhonors his trated on baseball earning senior and junior years Coach Hall then stayed on at the school as a graduate assistant in the basketball program plai e All-Sta- WHIIE AT Weber, Mike played under Dick Itlotta and Phil Johnson Motta is now the coach of the Washington Bullets professional team and Johnson has been a head coach in the professional ranks for about four years Since being at the Bountiful school Mike has been involved in football on the varsity level coaching the defensive backfield and the kicking game In the basketball program he was the junior varsity coach when Joe Johnson was the head man and he has been the sophomore coach for the past two years While the sophomore coach he has been known for his fiery style, if a kid isnt giving me his all on the floor, then he'll be sitting next to me I dont care how good he is, if he isnt playing hard then Ill find someone who will THAT STATEMENT really tells the type of person Mike Hall is As an athlete he had to play as hard as he could all the time In high school he was only about 59 tall and around the 140 pound mark but he played a lot bigger than those marks In college he was always the smallest player in stature but always gave it his best shot In recent years Mike has become well known for his officiating in both basketball and baseball No hes a head coach-t- he basketball officiating will have to wait but he still intends to umpire baseball HALL is looking forward to the challenge of coaching the Bountiful club next year, he feels they will be young but promises some exciting ball games COACH m fP The Bountiful Recreation Department is sponsoring their first soccer clinic set for the week of June 12 16 is b Qualified instruction will be given COST FOR the week long me is $3 per player All ages are encouraged to register Two sessions will be taught eat h day, the first at 9 a m until 10 30 and then the second from 10 30 until noon Registration is now under way at the Bountiful Recreational Complex on 400 North in Bountiful c ALL ASPECTS of the game taught from the propt r way to kick the ball on w ill be through dribbling, passing and shooting Also each position will be taught from goalkeeper, fullbacks, halfbacks and forwards, their responsibJities and duties I anc e said that in rodeoing, (he i icier is his own coach and Hairier, but that has changed events where FARMINGTON Lance Robinson, 310 West State Tarmington, and his cousin Paul Freed of Salt Lake City have been practicing roping and bulldogging in the Robinsons arena behind their house in Farmington since they were in junior high school Now both cousins who are now 22 have been signed bv the Salt Lake Buckaroos, and began last weekend to participate in Major League todeo competition THE TWO cousins are experts in calf roping, bulldogging and team roping Lance said, although he has done some bronc and bull riding. Brian Wick.
