THE TOTAL lot of fish at Glenwood numbered 230,000. Fish that were lost were being raised in concrete raceways near the south spring which supplies all of the water for the station. Only the fish in the uppermost raceway were affected. No other fish at the station showed any signs of stress or mortality. Prior to the incident, the group of fish that died were healthy and feeding well. No further loss has occurred at Glenwood since the original mishap. fin-gerli- SAMPLES of both dead and surviving fish from the affected raceways were taken to the Fisheries Experiment Station in Logan for pathological examination. No pathogens were found to be involved, and autopsies of the fish indicated only that some general agent was the culprit. Fish surviving the incident and taken to the experimental station are still alive and healthy. Investigation has shown that no infectious disease was present at the hatchery; but beyond that, the only conclusion available at this time is theory: It is probably that since the loss was sudden (overnight) and no other fish receiving water passed through the affected ponds died, that a small amount of some rapidly detoxified chemical-lik- e 2650 281 East, Layton, of the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their Miss Rula Jean Waite to Robert A. THE LOST fingerling fish were originally planned for planting this year; but due to low water conditions in many of the states waters and the subsequent chemical treatments scheduled in those waters, the loss will not affect this years overall planting operations. For example, if there is a strong breeze from the shore at sunrise, hopes for a good wind during the day are not always justified. Usually this land breeze dies down as the sun heats the land and is replaced by a sea breeze. in the OF COURSE, summer clouds may herald the approach of a thunderstorm and this means strong winds, but other than these storms, a bright, clear day is best for sailing. The sun heats the land faster than the water, air above the land rises and air over the water flows in over the land to replace it. That is the famous sea breeze one finds at large lakes and on ocean beaches. SPARTAN SIMPLICITY Book Agent (to farmer) You ought to buy an encyclopedia, now that your boy is going to school."
