ENTITLED TO COMMENDATION The people of Davis county who have followed tha doings of the sea sion of the legislature which closes this week, are pleased with the records of their representatives in that body. In the senate Rufus Adams, of Lay-tohas served on several committees, the most important of which was the appropriations committee, and his work is apparent there by the manner in which proposed appropriations were cut down to the lowest point consistent with good business judgment. In his voting in the senate Senator Adams vote has, in every instance, been recorded, only for measures which were in the interest of the taxpayer. In the house of representatives, D. D. Harris has made an enviable record as a legislator. In every instance Representative Harris delved into every measure which came before that body and satisfied himself that his vote was for the best interest of the people of Davis county and the State of Utah. He took high ground between both extreme elements in the n, . house and voted for conservative, economical and constructive legislation. Excepting therefrom a strip of land feet long by 30 feet wide conveyed to the Davis and Weber Counties Canal Company. ALSO excepttract a ing from the above strip of land 55 feet in width as a right of way for the Salt Lake & Ogden Railway Company, as now constructed. Not many months ago we were cheering, as long and as loudly as the lump in our throats would permit, the upstanding, eager-ey- d hoys as they marched off part on the great adventure. Some will never return;; others who went through hell that the nation might live came back to tts shattered in body It would almost seem that i or mind. ; the armistice brought to an end not only' the war, but our pride irr our soldiers, for pitiful tales come to light , of men who lost all but their courage in the strain and stress overseas, being committed to almshouses, even jails, because proper places for their treatment had not been provided; of inadequate hospital accommodations for others suffering from tuberculosis (as a result of gas or exposure. Vocational training has not been provided for all those crippled in Americas service; in many cases delays in adjusting claims for War Risk Insurance have caused great hardship. Meanwhie, we have debated months as to all soldiers should have a bonus. To this question there are two sides; to the uroblem of caring for the disabled sodiers there can never be but one. Irrespective of what is done about the bonus, these men whose wounds are badges of honor must be cared for. A bonus will not suffice for them. They went down into the Valley of the Shadow and their service cannot be paid for. But we must make Vhatever payment on account we can. For many of them it is too late they are no longer living. To those who are, our will to atone should be expressed to congress immediately, positively.
