With the possible exception of that part through the city of Farmington, & which is delayed until the State Road commission finally selects a route through that city, the Davis county section! of the State road between Salt Lake and Ogden will be completed the first of September. NoW that the road is to be completed it is in order to ask the question: Are the people of Davis county going to take advantage of the opportunity offered for the advancement and upbuilding of the county?" With rapid transit with a hard surfaced boulevard between the two principal cities Of the Vtate is Davis county to remain indifferent to progress? Are old, dilapidated buildings and fallen down fence to remain introduction committees to' the vast multitude of people who will motor through Davis county from all parts of the world ? Are the cities of .Davis county, through which the road' runs, going on just as they have for years, - with burdock' and bramble along the streets and on vacant lojts? We are afraid they are. , WitXnXXXmmmwmmK&XK-- The municipal election in Chicago Tuesday furnishes much food for political thought. First it shows that any old political hack can be elected on the Republican ticket "back east at this time. Surely, Mayor Thompson should have been easy to defeat on the review of hia war record alone. His victory cannot be credited to his stand on the prohibition question alone, for the reason that all the five candidates stood on a wet platform. The election df Mayor Thompson also shows the fallacy of the primary nominating system which has been called Into being to curb the power of organized politics. Had the selection of a candidate been in the hands ol gang politicians, as reformers call political organizations, Mayor Thompson would not have gained the nomination. After all it appears that boss rule is preferable to mob rule, and what is true of "Chicago is true of many other cities in America. We Wut Depet AND THE STATE FARMINGTON ROAD There seems to be a mistaken impression abroad concerning the attitude of Farmington to the State road, growing out of the fact that a con' tract was hot let for hard surfacing the road through that city. As a matter of fact, the contract was not let for, the simple reason .that, the State Road commission has not yet located the course of the road through that city. It has been proposed to aban don two of the turns in . the road through Farmington as the road is now routed, but the city council does not propose .to take, unto itself the responsibility for the change. At a recent meeting of the Farmington city KKXXXXXXXKXXXXXKXXX XKXXKX XX Spring and Summer He mission. From the above statement jt will be seen that Farmington, wants the roaa and wants it quick on any of the streets of the city that may be designated. - We VVATER-MAK- WfiiU K Depet w BOULEVARD Within the next few weeks the first section of the old Lake Bonneville Water-mar- k highway will be completed from the weftt brink of City Creek canyon to the Davis county line. Another road, which leaves the State Highway . near St. Marks hospital, will intersect this road in the rear of the state capitol and provide a short cut to the state capitol for conveyances entering Salt Lake City from the north. An effort is being made - to have the state continue the high line road into Davis county to a point southeast of Bountiful and over the mountains 5s into Morgan county 'and down Hard- - J SEE scrabble to a junction with the' road szj system of Morgan county. It is also proposed to continue the High Line road north through Davis county to a connection with the Mountain road on Haights bench. Another proposition is to construct a boulevard on the bank of a high line ditch out of Weber canyon to the south end of Davis county. .
