Show dhr IBrrkli lllrflrx O THE' PEOPLE MAY The Bamberger Electric Railroads application for increase in freight and passenger rates is to be heard before the Public Utilities Commission of Utah,. March 18, 1919. If the increase! applied for are granted the following changes from the present passenger fares will result: Kf PublinhMi THE INLAND PRINTING CO. C, - W. P. Epptraaa, MiW A. Fppron. Epperaon, No. H-- R Office, No. 18 THE PEOPLE MAY KNOJ Under the above caption, the SO berger Electric Railroad company is running a displayed statement con. cerning rates, in this issue of The Re flex; The advertisement gives the rates, of the fare now in force, also the increased rate they hope to have ratified by the Stats Public Utilities commission at the hearing which wih come up on March 18. . If .the Bamberge Elictric Railorad Company can show the Public Utilities commisson that it is entitled to a raise f rates, to obtain a fair return on capital invested and cost of operation, it is presumed it will be granted, other wise, denied. It is not beleived that the proposition of parity of rates, ah compared with other electric lines, Will be given serious consideration The Bamberger territory is the richest interurban- territory in Utah, travera ing as it does populous Davis county and connecting the two largest cities in the state. The conditions are different from those under which the Other electric lines are operated. It seems thst the matter of Lagoon Tates should also come up for con- aideratioh at this hearing. The Lagoon rate is manifestly unfair, , The people of Ogden are car Tied to Lagoon and return for 25 cents and the distance is 40 miles, while the people of Kaysville are carried to Lagoot and return (when they can gel on the overloaded trains) a distance cf 8 miles at a like fare a discrimination of 32 miles in favor of the "citizen. Following the Lagoon discrimination further, we find that 'the citizen of Farmington, who has no occasion to patronise the road to visit Lagoon, is charged 25 cents admission. The last analysis of this proposition Indicates that Lagoon visitors are car Tied to the resort free, and charged 25 cents for admission. Perhaps the commission had better look into this feature of free rides on the Bamber-ire- r Electric. In the matter of commutation tickets is another rank injustice as com Tnutatjon fares apply only to Salt Lfaks City and Ogden. For example; Vine residing in Kaysville and working in Farmington, is denied the privilege of purchasing commutation tickets. It is presumed the commission will wlso look into this phase of the matter. Jlut, as a matter of fact, it is believed the people of Kaysville are Tnore interested in n - suitable depot for thir accomodation than in the Tates of fare. Recently a party of Kaysville ladies land gentlemen met Julian Bamberger, president of, the Bamberger Elicttric Railroad company, at a function in . Salt Lake City, and while at table the matter of a depot at Kaysville was discussed. Mr. Bamberger stood the grilling hd received like the goes! sport be is "known to bebut-h- stated frankly that his company had no money with which to erect a depot, and he would not erect it until the company bad the money. It may be true that his company is 'short of funds, that it is operating at loss, but that does not alter the fact that Kaysville. should have a first-vIsrmodern depot. Mr. Bamberget is determined to resist all pressure o give Kaysville a depot. He even Te fused to consider taking a loan from Kaysville gentlemen who offered him money for the purpose. It seems the mattr bas come to a show-dowWhat -mre the people going to do about it!' If the company cannot accomodate its patrons in a suitable manner, through lack of funds, would it not be well for the patrons to lodge a complaint with the State Utilities commission and ask that a receiver be appointed for the road ? We believe a receiver would give Kaysville a depot. s, n.
