IV THURSDAY, APRIL 15 EDITORIAL LETS HAVE A This year Weber stands alone as the one school in the Northern Division who did not enter a track team, in the annual meet. We are among the few institutions in the state who have no students representing us in this great outdoor sport. We have no intentions of criticizing any individuals for this condition. We realize that the lack of facilities has been the primary purpose of the failure to have a track team. But the point we desire to emphasize is CROSS COUNTRY RUN HELD At last the long talked of cross country run became a reality. We can lay a part of the blame on the President of the Boys' Association, under whose auspices it was conducted. The cross country run will no doubt become an annual affair, while keener interest with class and individual rivalry will exist on a larger scale. The cross country run this year was a hard undertaking because of its unpopularity. The college class seemed to be the only ones who were enthused over it. Three students of their ranks sensed their duty and trained, while theye were practically the only persons in the entire student body, we are sorry to say. The course of the three mile run was very unsatisfactory, it being, in many instances, of a hilly nature. (With the small number of seven students the race begun, but ended with a decreased number of three. The three were the only ones prepared for the long run and as usual they were the ones to finish. Mr. Ira Terry finished first, making the distance in seventeen minutes flat. When he crossed the tape he was as "fresh as a 1 illy" and as he stated, could have run another mile. Mr. Grant Loftgreen finished se-second in a very pleasing way. Mr. Walter Stevenson 'witnessed some very disappointing luck. Walt or "Doc" led the race until within two blocks of the goal, when his ankle gave way and he was unable to finish.Found in Examination Papers 1. The chamois is valuable for its feathers. It is our sincere hope and desire that next year Weber will have the necessary facilities for track training. Give the Weber athletes the opportunity of demonstrating their athletic ability in the track events, together with the able work of a coach and this institution will be contending for first honors in this field of activity in the future.EMMETT WINS LEWIS MEDAL The annual Extemporaneous Contest of the school year was held recently and proved to be very interesting throughout. The winner of the contest was presented with a gold medal given rky L. J, Lewis, jewelers of thic city. We sincerely believe that Mr. Lewis, in offering this medal is doing a great duty. For the first part such a contest helps to enthuse the students to take part in student body activities. In the second place the contest is beneficial to all contestants. The general topic discussed in the contest was "World Peace." Twenty-four hours before the contest the speakers were given several subtopics of the general question. The final topic was chosen one hour before speaking. Mr. John Emmett won in a very commendable manner for which he received the medal.
