Of course you believe me when I say this because you are gullible, remember? I will end my column right now knowing I have saved countless students from fatal brain aneurisms induced by overexposure to tildes and triple bars. Wait! My psychic powers tell me that some of you are still contemplating the philosophy class. I feel you mulling it over with your right-braininess. You're telling yourself that you're smarter than I am, that lottery tickets are not just a tax for people who are bad with numbers, that you have heard the tests are open book, and that you have the entire collection of Star Trek decorative dinner plates and Spock is your favorite. Fine, choose not to believe me. Do whatever blows your bubbles. Go ahead and buy whatever Billy is selling, but don't blame me when those stubborn ketchup or coffee stains don't come out with one spray. Go ahead and take the philosophy class, but don't blame me when you are staring at an exam for eight hours (this is how long it took me to do the last one and I didn't even finish) full of strange symbols that look like it was written in ancient Greek. Don't blame me when you open your book and realize that it is not going to help you because wearing your pointy ears for the test does not make you a real VuJcan. Don't blame me when your brain starts to bleed and it leaks down into your eyes and you cry tears of blood onto your textbook. Just remember, there is no such thing as free money, there is a reason the offer is "not available in stores." If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, and there is no easy way out of math. Signpost | - SaraZaidi undeclared sophomore offers a 2200 class on deductive logic, "Shane Says" which fulfills the QL requirement. When I learned about this class every molecule in By Shane Stevenson my body did a happy columnist jig and I signed up. Now for the bad news, the bad news is that unless you are Sherlock Holmes, Spock, or extremely left-brained you should stick with math. WEDER STATE UNCVERStTYj ^ Police are saying last week's shooting in Ogden was gang-related. If Weber State were to offer a "Gangs 101" class to teach about gang behavior, why would you or Why ^ j*x would you not be interested in attending? VI Philosophy 2200 is not the easy way out A couple of simple facts: • You have a greater chance of being struck by lightning, while being eaten by a great white shark in the firstclass cabin of a 747 that crashed into the Arctic Ocean while flying from Denver to Chicago, than being a "Powerball" winner. • Moving your life savings from your account (under the mattress) to Beaniebabies and Pokemon cards was a poor investment. • No matter what Billy Mays says, you can't clean soap scum from your tub in one wipe and it isn't worth $19.95. • Gary Coleman is a sham; the loan has a 99.25% (this is not an exaggeration) interest rate and takes 42 months to pay off. If any of these statements came as a surprise to you then you are probably like me, gullible and bad at math. It's not your fault though. I blame society and the public school system. Whether you accept responsibility or not, the point is you have a problem. You have just a couple of semesters before graduation and you still haven't fulfilled your QL requirement. I know how it goes. Every semester you promise yourself that you will suck it up, take the Accuplacer and get into a math class. Then registration rolls around and you blow it off again. It's not like you have a phobia or anything. There are no cold sweats when someone mentions integers; no anxiety attacks when someone wants to discuss Pythagoras or Descartes over scones and tea. You are just afraid of ending up in 1010, which would mean two grueling semesters of the numbercrunching doldrums. I have some good news and some bad news for you. The good news is that there is another option.
