Additional roles not taken by the core company will be performed by community members. Core member Jim Madden a lead actor is playing Daddy Warbucks in "Annie," and Captain Jim in "Little Mary Sunshine." Madden is 27 and lives in St. Paul Minnesota. Madden has played dinner theaters and repertory theatre productions including the ever popular production "Show Boat." He graduated from St. Johns . University in Minnesota, a private school of a Benedicting administration. Madden had never traveled to the Westrn United States until this trip. Madden and and other core members feel that Ogden and Weber State College are great hosts. He said the sunsets and mountains have put a spell on him and he is enjoying the beauty of Northern Utah. Director of "Annie," Gary Bird teaches at Utah State University and lives in Logan. "Annie" is currently being rehearsed three times every morning, once every afternoon and again in the evening. People involved in the production are working from 9 a.m. till 10:30 p.m. six days a week. . Bird said Annie herself has been cast with two leading actresses. This was done mainly because both girls showed an exceptional amount of talent in the auditions. July 11 is opening night for the summer shows in the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts, Allred Theatre. The plays will be performed in repertory: alternating nights. UMT performs their plays this way so that audiences can see all three of their plays and still fit them into their vacation schedules. Plays to be performed this year include "Annie," opening on July 11, the first of the plays to begin, "Anne of Green Gables," opening on July 17, and "Little Mary Sunshine," opening July 31. Dr. Ronald Ladwig, managing and art director of UMT said he is very pleased with this years theatre. "The directors are all a pleasure to work with and the actors are a showcase of talent," he said. "This season symbolizes a new beginning for our summer theatre company," said Ladwig. "We have changed our name and put our focus on family musicals: We also want to combine our professional performers and designers with people from the community to make this the finest summer musical theatre anywhere."
