Show Page 10 Sculpture made to be touched "Sculptures for the Visually Impaired," with entries by nine Utah sculptures, is on display in the Weber State College Stewart Library through Oct. 30. The entries are on the top floor of the library and may be seen by the public from Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. On Friday the library is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 to 5 p.m. Sculptures involved in the exhibit are Larry Eisner, Logan; Julie Connel, Richard Johnston, Stephen Connell, Salt Lake City; David Cox and Dale W. Bell, Utah Commissioner of Higher Education, announced. "Utah participates in the WICHE program inasmuch as Utah does not have professional schools in all disciplines. However, Utah is a receiving state for students in Medicine, Law, Forestry, Physical Therapy and Graduate Nursing," Dr. Bell stated. Interested students who seek certification as WICHE exchange students in Veterinary Medicine, Optometry, Dentistry and Podiatry must file applications before Oct. 15, 1976. Sam J. Ervin, Jr., former U.S. Senator, will address the Ogden residents ; and the program is free and open to the public. Sponsorship is by the ASWSC. He is a known First Amendment authority and has continued to work for individuals' freedom rights, particularly for federal employees, American Indians, military personnel and the mentally ill. Sen. Ervin is noted among his constituents for possessing a unique grasp of the U.S. Constitution, along with the special eloquence of a country lawyer. The senator will also speak at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. Mr. Ervin, retired North Carolina Senator, gained international attention during the height of the Watergate scandal investigations when serving as chairman of the Senate's probe committee in 1973. i j Senator Sam J. Ervin, Jr. will be wsc convocation guest speaker this Wed. Oct. 6, at noon in the FAC. New Instructors at WSC Students attending classes this fall quarter at Weber State College were greeted by 31 new instructors. Of these, 17 are permanent replacements, four are filling new positions, and the remainder are temporary replacements for Weber teachers who are on leave of absence. There are nine new instructors holding doctorate degrees included in the new group of faculty. Dr. Roy Benke, Jr., has been assigned to be a lecturer in the anthropology department. He is a temporary replacement for Rosemary Phillips. Dr. Richard T. Grow will teach as an assistant professor of psychology. His appointment fills a new position in the psychology department. Dr. Reed R. Channell will be an assistant professor in the child and family studies department. This appointment will be permanent for Dr. Channel. Dr. Raymond P. Martin and Dr. Ross E. Ferland have been assigned as lecture-assistant professors in the automotive engineering technology department. Dr. Ferland replaces Bennion Tueller and Dr. Martin replaces Joseph Hrabovsky. Dr. William McVaugh will be a lecturer in the psychology department. Dr. McVaugh replaces Dr. Gary Carson who has been transferred to coun seling. Weber State's english department has added three doctors to its staff. They are Dr. Neila C.-Seshachari, Dr. Algirdas R. Zolynas, and Dr. Douglas M. Tedards. Dr. Seshachari will be assigned as an assistant professor and will replace Jack Steele. Dr. Zolynas is a temporary replacement for Larry Gasser and Dr. Tedards will now teach ten courses formerly taught by Dr. Thomas Burton, assistant vice president for academic affairs. Other new instructors greeting WSC students in the child and family studies department include Annette Fraser, instructor, and Brenda S. Hall, assistant professor. Martin L. Kelly will be teaching in the WSC theatre arts department as a visiting assistant professor. The department of data processing has also added three new instructors to its staff. Beginning their teaching duties this week were Michael E. Tabor, lecturer; Allen Simkins, associate professor and chairman of the department; and Robert Lewis, assistant professor. Gail Joyce Wiggett, visiting assistant professor, has been assigned to the college's geology-geography department. The music department has" added Douglas J. Wolf to its staff as instructor and the office management department has hired Dana J. Wursten as a lecturer. D. Louise Kingsbury has been hired by the communications department as a lecturer and the secondary education department has added Karen E. Jacobsen Nielsen as a lecturer also. The physical education department has hired Jane Miner as a lecturer while the Nursing staff now includes Karla Dalley as instructor and Susan Kesler as lecturer. Kesler will teach on the Southern Utah State College campus in Dixie, Utah. Dolores Hansen and Dennis Lee Peterson have been assigned as lecturers in the field of elementary education. Two new instructors have also been assigned teaching duties in the health occupations-dental hygiene area. They are Wendy Ayars and Ray Ann Bullock. Also assigned to the health occupations area is- Ann Hackleman. She will teach as an assistant professor in the medical technology field. Weber's art department has hired Samuel Moya as an assistant professor and the english department has added Scott Loughton to its staff as a lecturer. The technology department has also added two new lecturers to its group of faculty members. They are Erik Meinikheim and Del Packwood. |
