OF OGDEN 2446 Washington Blvd. 399-1 145 New buildings Construction of three new buildings on the Weber State College campus is to be completed in early 1977. This will include additions to the Library and Technical Education Buildings and the much publicized Dee Special Events Center. Budgeting is estimated at approximately $3.9 million for the Library, $4.1 million for the Technical Building, and $8.8 million for the Events Center. New library The new section of the library is near completion. The functions in the top floor of the old section have been moved to the top floor of the new section and the same is now being done with the middle floors so that the old sections may be renovated. The basement of the old section will be left as is, with the basement of the new section due for completion by the first of November. When the project is finished the interior of the library will feature such things as skylights in the lobbies, bright colored furniture and polarized lighting. According to the designer the new lighting system is the most up-to-date in the Intermountain West. It will save energy because of its low density, and at the same time will be adequate for reading purposes. The interior of the library will incorporate regular library functions on the top floors with the two basement floors being used for classroom instruction, specialization for television and photography, and general media production for the campus. Landscaping in front of the library will be completed next summer. About half of the con-cerete work is finished now. Robert Folsom, director of campus planning, said because of some financial problems, landscaping around the Stewart Bell Tower and on the north side of the library had to be deleted for now. The north side will be used for parking this year, but eventually "Pay if You Sell" Want Ads The no-risk way to advertise. The contractor has until next summer to complete the entire project, Folsom said. New Tech. Ed. Construction on the new Technical Education Building will be completed by the fall of 1976 if plans continue on schedule. It will be an expansion of the old building and will house industrial, manufacturing, and technology classrooms and labs. It will also house such things as photography, graphics and the building trades, along with the offices for the various schools and faculty. "We were able to include all the landscaping in this contract," Folsom said. Landscaping will include a concrete terrace connecting the new building with the old one, and parking in the rear of the new building. Events Center Completion of the Dee Events Center is due in March of 1977 if work continues on schedule. Folsom said the construction of the Events Center was originally planned for the lot across 41st Street opposite Promontory Tower. It was then decided to analyze the campus and it was BIGHORN 7580 Reg. 48.00 Now $3495 concluded the campus could eventually double in size. Therefore, the original site should be left for possible expansion. There was also the possibility of a parking problem if on any given night events were being held simultaneously in the Dee Events Center and the Fine Arts Center. An area southeast of the campus was then chosen as the best site and the college purchased the land. The basic building of the structure is under contract now, but funds are still needed for some exterior design and landscaping and parking.' Rebidding on seats Bidding on the seats for the approximately 12,000 seating capacity will be reopened in the near future. The lower half of the seats will have cushion bottoms with plastic backs and the upper half will have all plastic seats. Because of cost overruns some changes had to be made, Folsom said. The whole roof structure was changed from steel to wood. It will be an exact duplicate of the University of Utah Special Events Center. At this point there is no money for landscaping, but eventually trees and shrubs will be planted around the area to screen off the center from the residential area and cut down on noise. A parking lot for about 3,000 cars will also be built. The only thing residents of that area are concerned about is the noise which may come from the influx of cars in the area during events, Folsom said.
