(Photo by Steve Matlow) "Dead week' debated Academic Assembly passed a resolution on Tuesday concerning "Dead Week" after debating a clause limiting studentbody activities.Dead week is the week before finals in which classwork is limited. Doug Young, assemblyman from the school of Social Sciences, presented the resolution. He pointed out that the faculty would look at the resolution without the clause limiting activities and wonder why they should limit tests during the week when students have not limited their extracurricular activities as well. Ed Walker, assemblyman from the school of Natural Sciences, moved that the word "curtailment" replace "no activities." His move died for a lack of second. However, he pointed out there was no way to control the athletic department in limiting their activities. He said along with their activities the ASWSC sponsored dances and those could not be cancelled because plans had already been made lor meiu. Craig Hill, assemblyman from the school of Business, said he could see placing limitations on student activities. An amendment stating student-body activities be limited passed. Gallegos also asked that a clause saying that no examinations be given with the exception of make-up exams and finals be changed to include examinations previously planned for one month in advance. He said this was necessary because in his school they go through so much material they must be tested on it weekly. This amendment passed and the resolution passed. Young said the faculty needed some options in choosing students for tenure committee. One option which said the department faculty could vote on students from their area could create a conspiracy, Gallegos said.
