Show grants available for summer's research, study Dr. Ralph W. Monk, director of Academic Research, said in an interview that Weber State College students and faculty are eligible to apply for research grants for research projects conducted during summer quarter. The National Science Foundation sponsors and funds research at the undergraduate as. well as the graduate level to foster and promote theoretical and applied sicentific research. Areas in which such research is conducted include the natural sciences, social sciences, political science and economics (excluding business). According to Dr. Monk, 25 students and 20 faculty members participated in foundation sponsored research last summer for a two month period. Dr. Monk also said that students who participate receive experience, knowledge and research skills that will be useful in post graduate studies. Students may also be eligible for extra credit hours and are paid $640 for the two months work by the foundation. Last summer's projects involved students and faculty from seven departments working on 27 projects in such fields as pest control, disease control, cancer research, air pollution surveys and fuel cell research. During the research, students work under the supervision of a noted pair magicians It ill faculty member who is compensated by the foundation at his "college position" pay scale. Dr. Monk emphasized that the research subject matter is student or faculty originated and is not dictated by the foundation.Students and faculty interested in applying for foundation grants should contact Dr. Monk at ext. 377. catalogue material solicited Dr. Dee Flitton, coordinator of Academic Research and editor of the Weber State College General Catalogue has appealed for early submission of suggestions to make the 1973-74 edition more useful to students, faculty and staff. Catalogue secretary, Mrs. Janet Holmes, is presently at work in final format preparation, layout and typing. Virgil and Julie are widely known show people and have appeared on the Gary Moore Show on CBS television, the Ed Sullivan Theatre on Broadway, and at the Academy of Music in New York City. The college will be required to add 10 per cent of that amount as its share. It was estimated by the Department of Health, Education and Welfare's Bureau of Higher Education that approximately 445 Weber students will be granted the awards. Weber State students can ap-play for the loans from the Financial Aids Office in Building One. Utah State University and the University of Utah grabbed the lion's share of the loan funds. USU was given $656,255 to aid an estimated 1,491 students and the U of U received $839,772 for 1,909 students. Little Southern Utah State College with 2,000 students received almost as much as WSC. They were given $183,960 tohelp 418 students (one in every five). Utah Technical College of Salt Lake gained $128,520 for 292 students. Utah Technical College of Provo received $36,342 for 83 students. Privately owned Westminster College of Salt Lake City with 850 students was given $71,235 for 162 student awards. Snow College of Ephraim with a studentbody of 900 was grant again at President Joseph ed $36,472 assisting about 83 enrollees. Dixie College picked up $35,550 to back an estimated 81 students. And, College of Eastern Utah was given $9,000 to support 20 of its 750 students. grad forms require study Students planning to graduate in June 1973 should apply-now for graduation at the graduation window in the new Administration Building. It is necessary thatan evaluation of classes be made to see that all class requirements are met. A class load discussion with major and minor departmental advisors is also necessary. flu shot schedule Influenza shots will be available to Weber State College students, faculty and staff on Friday.The place is the Student Health Center, located in Annex 4 north of the Security Building.
