Show page 3 'Midsummer' review oil aspects contribute to ploy signpost by beverly gagnier I hate Shakespeare! I always have and I thought nothing could change my mind until I saw the Weber State Theatre production ok, "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Hoping for an intricate, im possible to follow plot marred by garbled lines and poor projection, I was badly disappointed. Not only do the players project, they articulate so well that it's impossible to lose the story line. Seeking an excuse for my infatuation (nobody but intellectual ' s i'. This year students who sign up for sections 3 or 5 of Geology 295 will receive one hour of college credit for this trip. Each section will be limited to about 37 students.Section 3 will be led by Dr. Fred Pashley and will hike into the canyon from the South Rim on the Hermit Trail. This will be a round trip of about 15 miles. Section 5 will be led by Dr. Ray Breuninger and will visit the bottom by way of the Bright Angel Trail and return on the Kaibab Trail. Both groups will spend two nights camping in the Canyon, one night on the rim and one night in Zion Canyon. Students will provide their own food and transportation. Any student who wishes to take this" class should visit the Geology Department at once and put his name on the reservation list. Out of the 74 positions available, about 60 are already spoken for. Our enrollment restrictions are placed on us by the National Park Service and, therefore, only students officially registered for the class will be welcome on the trip. This year's trip will be considerably more strenuous than those of previous years because on the fourth day, we will have to climb out from the bottom of the canyon instead of a half-way point as we have done in previous years. Inexperienced hikers and those who are not in excellent physical condition should not register. The trip dates are May 2-6, 1973. More information will appear in the Signpost at a later date. i YOGA ; WORKSHOP I Spring Quarter I AAon. and Wed. at 1 2 noon ' I in Dance Studio I P.E. Dept. Contact ! Mrs. Waterfall I WSC - EXT 295 snobs enjoy Shakespeare) I tried blaming Terry Asia's imaginative costumes and set design. Changing to the graceful dances choregraphed by J.D. Stokes and the ear pleasing sounds of Lynn Alvord's musical score, I found that I could not pinpoint a single cause for. my pleasure in this confection of fun, love and midsummer madness. Woe to the critic who praises some of the players and forgets the others and in this cast with it's abundance of excellence and talent, to single out one or two performances as best would task the wisdom of a Solomon. As confused and often thwarted lovers Jeffery Hansen, Nancy Larson, Timothy Scott Dun-canson and Mary Jane Wheelwright bring sparkle and bounce to each situation. Gary Bird, as the Duke of Athens, Rhonda Miracle as the Queen of the Amazons and Kent Hansen and Kristen Hurst as the fairy world royalty are as beautiful, arrogant and as commanding as royality is expected to be. Puck will capture many hearts with his sense of mischief and good intentions gone away and J.D. Stokes has captured the fun- loving nature of the imp. One of the most enjoyed sections of Shakespeare's work is the play within the play. Michael Stever, Bruce Mower, David Page, Jerry Vaculin, Joseph Saunders and Mitchell Hansen do well as the tradesmen who present the play to the Duke but Bruce Mower as Bottom, the pompous, ignorant, ass-headed love of the fairy queen Titania, is especially good. The play, a commentary on the whimsical and irresponsible aspects of love, attempts to reconcile the different varities of experience, such as love, clownishness, obedience to family and spouse, friendship and romance but passes no judgement upon the merits of those worlds. C.K. Hunter points out "Here among the muddled roots of humanity it is dangerous to laugh too loud for Shakespeare makes it clear that it is ourselves we are laughing at. Director of the play, Dr. John Elzey says, "This is a play about the different aspects of love and is meant to be enjoyed. There are no deep messages but there is room for pleasure and laughter." I can only agree that it would be money and time well spent. -if s ! A NANCY LARSON and Jeff Hansen get set to run away. vim? VH -9 -TT. -CSS ."'. Jfl- ?: v-IS-.lsjj,. r : mi fin 4$ f 3 .) 4 !
