IfJisiraers In Talent BIiovj In the annual Talent Show held Thursday, April 12, at the Ogden High Auditorium, Phoenix Club captured . first place in the men's division, while La Dianaeda won in the women's POST NUTS Australian Film "Lands Down Under", John M. Goddard's lecture, will be presented Monday, April 30 at 8 p.m. at the Ogden Tabernacle. This has previously been presented as part of 'the Weber College Lecture Series. Tickets can be obtained at the door or from Walter Buss, Room 418. Secretarial Tests State employment testing on typing and shorthand will be given at 8 a.m. in rooms 209 and 229 on Tuesday, May 1. ' Thursday, May 3, special Civil Service examinations for clerks, typists, and stenos will be held in rooms 209 and 229 from 8 a.m. to 12 o'clock. For further information, Mr. Henrie in the Business Division may be contacted. California Trip The San Diego excursion by the Weber College Model U.N. Delegation was both ian academic and cultural trip. Top speakers at the conference were Mr. Cisco, Director of the Department of Political Security for the U.N., and Secretary General U. Thant's Under Secretary of the General Assembly. These attending the conference were Dello G. Dayton, faculty advisor, Larry Bryant, chairman of the delegation, Shauna Day, John Lannefield, John Agee, and Ruth Jones. Peace Corps Test Peace Corps Placement Tests will be given Saturday, April 21 at 8:30 a.m. in Room 406 at the Federal Building in Salt Lake. Applicants must be American citizens and at least 18 years of age. The training for 30 new Peace Corps jrojects will begin this summer. For more information Merle E. Cammack, assistant professor of mathematics at Weber College, was state chairman of a recent mathematics contest for high school students. 1 The Junior Academy of the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters sponsored this contest. Trip To Colorfull Southern Utah By Karen Sue McLeod Signpost Staff Writer Walter Buss, head of the Geology and Geography Department, said this week that definite dates have been set for trips planned by that department. Zion - Bryce Those going on the Zion-Bryce trip will depart at 6 o'clock on Thursday morning, the 26th, arriving home Sunday night, the 29. Names of ithose participating and money ($20) must be in to Mr. Buss no later than Wednesday morning, April 25. Arches Friday noon of May 4, to Tuesday night, the 8th, are dates for the excursion to Arches, Mesa Verde, Natural Bridges, and Monument Valley. This cost is approximately $25.' Another trip to Dionsaur National Park will be taken May 18-19, if enough students are inter-,sted.All students now or previously registered for geography or geology classes, or other interested are invited to attend. LDS Features Western Hoe-Down By Dorothy Erkelens Donned in Western get-up, Lambda Delta Sigma members and pledges danced, dined, and doodled at their annual "rip noar-ing" old-fashioned barn dance, Thursday, April 19. Held ' in the Huntsville Stake Center, (We couldn't find a large enough barn), the atmosphere crackled with country gentlemen and ginghamed gals. Square dancing, directed by Ron Driggs, box lunches, packed by the females, and bales of "hay" 'and "hi" loaded the evening. Our Easter bunnies are coming .on Saturday, instead of Sunday this year. They (all seven inter-chapter offcers) promise baskets of hidden eggs for those who attend the Sunrise Service April 20 at 7:00. A combination of spiritual and recreational doings have been planned. Second place honors went to Sigma Delta Pi and Sharmea. Phoenix's theme was "Yesterday," and the skit was writen and directed by Dennis Berrett. L.D.'s skit "Sacrificart" was dir-joted by Catherine Burdett, and the original dance was created by .forma Murdock. Sigma's "My Satelite Won't Come Back," was written and directed by Conrad Price, Paul Danger-field, and Steve Porter. Sharmea's "On The Rue de la Paix" was written by Joan Henderson and Paulette Litchenstein Debaters Place Top In Nation Eileen Grix and Ann Moesinger, Weber College students, placed second in the nation in women's Jebate, in the forsenic tournament held at Hutchinson, Kansas April 12-14. Fourth In Nation Oorrie Oborn placed fourth in the nation in the Oratorial contest. Miss Oborn is also a Weber College student. Ray London and Oorrie Oborn placed 5th in the men's division, and Ray London placed fifth in extemporaneous contest. Several ratings of excellence and superior were awarded other Weber College students as a result of their participation in the tournament Spring Dance Held Tonight By Nona Valdez The swabbies are proud and happy to be winners of Talent Show; a lot of good hard work has paid off with the beautiful first place trophy. Again we wish to thank Cubby Burdett, chairman of the show, and Norma Murdock, choreographer, for their 'excellent work on the production. It was their creativeness and good taste that helped us to sail into first place.. Congratulations to the pink ladies, Phoenix, and Sigma for their winning performances. New Pledges A pledge ceremony was held last Sunday to welcome six new pledges into the swabbies ranks. We feel We have 'the "cream of the crop" in LaRee Stewart, Marilyn Bingham, Connie Strong, Dorothy Pali, Joan Orr, and Claudia Ben-net. The ceremony was held at Dixie . Lee's home. Country Club Our Spring Formal will be held tonight at the Oakridge Country Club. To whom it may concern: guards will be stationed in the parking lot to guard against the vandalism displayed at last year's dance. Our traditional breakfast will be held Easter morning at the Hotel Ben Lomond to wind up our Easter activities. Good luck to the candidates running for office.
