Weber Track Team Shaping Up As Victory Material Weber's 1952 track team, is shaping up very nicely, according to Coach Anderson. The boys dominated a three-way meet with Westminster and Snow on April 19 by a margin of 20 points. The Wildcat's mile relay team, consisting of Jerry Loosely, Blaine Taylor, John Cardon, and Bob Wheelwright, figured heavily in the victory. Taking a lion's share of the laurels also was the 880 relay team composed of Don Shaw, Don Colvin, Paul Slater, and Dale Cow-gill. Coach Anderson said the biggest surprise of the meet was the first place in .the low hurdles scored by Lamont Lamb, who is noted for shot put, javelin, and discus ability. The track team attended the B.Y.U. invitational meet on April 26 in which only individual honors were recorded. Fleet-footed Blaine Taylor was the meet's standout in the 440 yard run. He won handily with a scant time of :53.6 seconds. Coach Anderson is looking for some first places from the strong field event crew, in the four-way invitational meet at Westminster on May 3. Competing will be Snow, Carbon, Westminster, and Weber. The last track meet of the season will be the conference meet May 10 with Ricks, Boise, Carbon, B.A.C., Snow, Westminnster, Dixie, and Weber vieing for team honors. IM Softball Shows Three Unbeaten Teams Intra mural Softball got off to a good start last week with games each day at 12:15. Because of the number of entries in the sport, Clair Anderson, intra mural director divided it up into two divisions or rounds. Thus far in the first round, Excelsior I beat Lamba Delta, Pheonix I over Sigma, and Pheonix I again coming out on top by beating Lamba Delta. In round 2, a strong faculty team beat Skull, and Pheonix II in succession and the folded up under the strong team from Alpha Rho. The tournament this year is going to be another hard fought contest with Excelsior coming up with one unbeaten team, followed by Pheonix I and Alpha Rho, who are also unbeaten up to date. Ready to try winning the opening game of the league season tonight against Ricks college at 8:00 p.m. at Affleck parks are Coach Milt Mecham and his nine diamond wizards. Ron Stevens will be the Wildcat's starting chucker. Weber turned back the Hill Air Force team April 25 by a score of 15 to 9. Doug Brian toed the rubber all nine frames and limited the opposition to ten scattered hits. Dick Peterson slammed out three hits in four trips to the platter. The sensation of the game was the running shoestring catch in the seventh frame by Hunsaker. He came up from the turf with the ball and in the same motion fired over to first-base for a double play. In an earlier encounter with the Hill Air Force nine, Weber won 10 to 5. The Wildcats are scheduled for a double header tomorrow at one p.m. in the Affleck park to complete the series with Ricks. Doug Brian and Don Shaw will be in the battery lineup lor the twin bill. Sports Oddity One of the sports oddities to be remembered around Weber for some time came about in a Softball game between the Phoenix and Excelsior last Tuesday. (Incidentally the "sisters" edged out the big "E" boys 10 to 1.) Ray Newey, Phoenix, was at bat with pitcher, Darrell Saunders running on second base. With the pitch Saunders broke for third, Wes Rose, big "E" catcher, fumbled the ball momentarily, then Newey picked up the ball lying in from the home plate and threw his team mate out on third base. Science professor: "Miss Jones, will you tell the class what happens when a body is immersed in water?" Co-ed Jones: "Sure the telephone rings."
