' Brian Renstram, president of the returned missionaries, proudly displays the chosen "Dream Girl" and her attendants. They are Ann Despain, attendant; Colleen Burnett, "Dream Girl"; and Kay Jon Mildon, attendant. This trio reigned at a dance with the A-Chapter in Logan and will be honored at a banquet in February in their honor. Sigma Boys Issue Warnings to WC The Sigma five boasts 2 wins and no losses in basketball to date. Brilliant passing and shooting, and the fact that the other teams didn't show up, helped greatly in these victories. The party with Otyokwa at Snow Basin featured tobogganing, dancing, games of chance, and barbecue from an unknown source. Heap big thanks, Squaws, for a swell time. An election was held, and after careful stuffing of the ballot boxes, the results were as follows: the big wheel at the helm of Sigma this quarter, and a former member of Junior Birdmen of America, is Wayne Stromberg, with Honest Dave Johnson in charge of vice. Gene Swenson is in the honorable "note-taker" position, while Darrell"Sticky-fingers" Lund does the job on the referees. Don Naef is the new sports manager, and Ed Vendall, who is out to make Weber a four year college single handed, is the official bouncer. These men are armed and considered dangerous, and should be approached with care and caution in apprehension. Matinee Dances Slated on Tues. Matinee dances sponsored by the Social Committee of Weber College will be held every Tuesday from 11:00 till 1 p. m. in the college ballroom. , The various organizations on the campus are taking charge of each event, and music for the dances is supplied by local bands, or records.Bob Critchlow, chairman of the Social Committee, reports that there has been a favorable turnout thus far at the dances, but would like to see everyone there. Sweetheart Date Approaches The annual Sweetheart Ball, sponsored by Otyokwa and those big "E" men, is scheduled for February 27 in the Weber College ballroom. "o information concerning queen candidates, orchestration, theme, time, or decorations is available at the present time. Lambda Delta Holds Annual Initiation The first sunday in February featured the initiations of the Lambda Delta Sigma. The ceremony was open to the public. Initiations took place in the Institute building. In charge of the affair was Brother Van Alfen. 'Boneheads' In Comeback Well, Skull club is back to normal this quarter. The few "bone-heads" left from last year were a little worried because so much of their membership was withdrawn by Uncle Sam to help fight Communism in Korea. This quarter, however, in spite of the draft, Skull club is getting back into shape. You haven't seen much of Skull in the intra-murals, but now they are organized, watch out! "Miss Bonehead" of 1953 was chosen on January 14, from a glamorous array of striking beauties (Skull pledges). Miss Henry-(etta) Dickamore was claimed final beauty through his (her) well proportioned figure and charming talents (?). New elections were held naming Bob (Willie) Willianson as president; Clayton Gilbert, vice president; Lynn Roberts, secretary; Pat Smith, treasurer; and Gerald King, athletic manager. We wish these officers success during their terms. Squaws Set Plans For Future Events Squaws are mighty proud of papooses who have proved to be such sports at Frivolous, and incidentally, good fishermen. (Gold fish, that is!) Otyokwa's special guest at Frivolous were such famous entertainers as Dick Keller, Garth Willie, and George Bortuiex. Among the events on the Otyokwa calendar are: a shindig with the Cat men; big plans for the "Dance of the Year," which is coming soon, "the Sweetheart Ball." Excelsior guarantees entertainment for the evening. (We wonder who'll do the floor show?) Tokens ' of respect, achievement, and high standing were presented the threesome at honor time. The Chapter will hold its annual dream girl banquet in February. Competition is said to be very keen, and there are several rodeos scheduled in March, April, and May. The top ten rodeo teams will be invited to participate in the national championship atHardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas, on May 14, 15, and 16th of this year. The NIRA (National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association) says that each year more and more schools are becoming interested in rodeo as a sport ideally suited to Western schools. Sounds like fun! The background was a white dove bearing an olive branch. i : - u 1 i r Merry Maids Start Activities "During the holidays Chanodo's Merry Maids were as busy having parties as Robin Hood's band when they were hunting silver for King Richard's ransom," states Jean Crawshaw, club president. Chanodo sponsored a Christmas party for the club members, as well as a party for needy children of Ogden. This benefit festivity, held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, was attended by thirty young boys and girls. "Hell Week, the annual week of club initiations, with its raw eggs, blue pills, and comical costumes, came to an end and put the Merry Maids back into the swing of studies," Jean said. " 1 -J Alpha Rho Annual Smoker Cancelled If you see any Alpha Rho members walking down the halls wearing, a dejected look, please try to comfort them. They have a very good reason for feeling this way. Glen Bridges, president of Alpha Rho, received a letter from the A. A. U. Commission which stated that they could not furnish any boxers for Alpha Rho's annual smoker this year. However, students can anticipate the holding of this big affair next year. On Friday, January 23, students of Weber College were busy buying cup-cakes put out by the culinary section of Alpha Rho. The sale of these delicious cakes was extremely successful, and the fellows who did the baking deserve to be recognized for their fine art of cooking. Since the federal government is making a change in its officers this month, Alpha Rho decided to follow suit. The new officers of the fraternity are: Glen Bridges, president; Keith Knighton, vice president; Bob Tolman, secretary; LeGrande Lamb, treasurer; and Darrell Checketts, acting sergeant at arms. A vote or thanks tor a job well done is extended to the replaced club officers I r Boy's Clubs Choose New Club Leaders During Hell Week the halls of Weber College were filled with the sights of initiations. Among the various clubs were distributed cooks, cowboys, goddesses, Bo Peeps, Raggedy Anns, sailors, Gay Nineties gals, Indians, little girls, and pajamas. Leather straps were found flying from place to place and also flowered pants. The Boys' clubs elected hew presidents, vice presidents, and so on. The new presidents for the clubs are: ' Skull Robert Williamson. Sigma Wayne Stromberg. Phoenix Boyce Harris. Excelsior Kent Weathers. Alpha Rho Glen Bridges. The Girls' clubs did not elect new officers. Pink Ladies List Club Happenings Another quarter has started, and Sharmea is ready to carry on in the usual bang-up way. Hell Week was the first big event on the list, topped off by Frivolous. All the little pledges accepted their fate willingly (ha ha). The only regret the members have is for the innocent little goldfish lost somewhere in the dark, unknown of Dorothy Dean. The second event was the party with Phoenix which turned out to be another successful party. Sharmea provided the "eats" via pot luck, while Phoenix planned their usual games (?) Sharmca's only remark is next time they'll wear concealed straight pins to insure popping balloons. Sharmea especially wishes to welcome their new advisor, Marian Brown, who is President Dixon's personal secretary. "We know she is a wonderful girl and we'll all back her all the way," say the Pink Ladies. "Our congrats to our own Midge Curran who has been elected new assistant inter-mural manager. We also want to congratulate Colleen and Ray on the fine Lamba Delta assembly." News has been received that the Friendship Banquet will be held on February 11 in the Peacock Room of the Canton Cafe. Tickets can be purchased for the small sum of $2.25. The Friendliest Girl will be announced and presented at that time. |
