Voters Display Apathy Communism declares that religion is the opiate of the masses and when overthrown will result in a proletariat revolution. The Weber College "Signpost" declares that apathy is the opiate of the masses and when overthrown will result in better school spirit. The Nominations Assembly held two weeks ago was a flagrant display of how Democratic forms can be used by minority groups. The absence of independent students from the assembly left complete control of the procedures in the hands of a few interested groups. Not blaming the groups represented or the candidates nominated, we feel its time for the independents on Weber College's campus to take an active interest in school functions. Out of a daytime studentbody of 1196, only 125 were present at the assembly. Communism boasts a control group of 3 of the total population, Weber College is more Democratic, our control group is a large 11. It's time to stop taking tranquilizers to solve your problems. If you don't vote now, will you be capable to vote in national and local elections? The present name for Weber College newspaper, Signpost, was started in W37. There was no school paper between the years of 1928-1937 because of the lack of school funds. Before 1928 the school paper appeared as the "Weber Herald." Under the administration of President Henry Aldous Dixon, the present newspaper appeared on Sept. 29, 1937 as a weekly paper. The "new" newspaper was named after a make-shift school news which had been placed on a bulletin board under a sign fashioned like a hitching post with the log letters forming the name"Signpost." And he uses the same basis for the selection of his leisure activities. This very attitude of selecting the line of least resistance, the flower-strewn path, has literally metamorphosed 'the American way' from an estimable example of courage, inventiveness and the desire to succeed into a cipher in world culture. Unfortunately, all too often this view of Americans is that which people of other countries see. Their only contact is with the monied tourists who desire to become cultured by osmosis.
