Show February 13, 1952 SIGNPOST Page 3 Var Breaks Out! Campus Cartoons Depict Club Feel The big green-eyed, silk-hattedT capitalist with money bags emerging from his pockets is a favorite cartoon of Russia's newspaper "Pra-vada." The dictatorial, fat, mus-tached Joseph Stalin as he greedily manipulates the control strings of the Chinese Red puppets is an American cartoon favorite. In a similar way the Republicans depict Harry Truman mounted on a donkey galloping down the road to socialism or backruptcy. Likewise, tlje Democrats see a Republican elephant leading America into war or into big business monopolies. On a more local scene we find Governor Lee and opponents tossing the political jokes back and forth. Signpost wants it known that Weber college is not to be left put of this world-wide tradition. This issue, Signpost presents "As They See it!" or "Go to heck, you other clubs, we're the only one on the campus." The two guinea pigs, Phoenix and Sigma, submitted cartoons and were requested to support the car i WATER? Never. touch. the stuff ! Theater Vorkshop Presents 'Othello' By Beverly Brewer There's been some speculation of late as to what is becoming of some of our students. Since when, for instance, have such words as hath, doth, wilt, and hast, been part of college lingo? And is it altogether proper to sport a two-inch beard, no matter how manly it may make a person feel? Well, let's not be too quick in our judgment. There's a reason for all such actions. And the reason is the coming Shakespearian play, "Othello," to be presented by the Theater Workshop, the week of March 10. The cast, as announced by director John Kelly, is as follows: Boyce Harris, as Othello; Marilyn Lamborn, as Brabantia; Jarvis Anderson and Larry Wright, as Cassio; Dick Slater, as Iago, which accounts, for the beard; Byron Burt, as Roderigo; George Francis, as Montano; Jann Heiner, as Desdemona; and Rebecca Wells, as Amelia; with George Bobolis, Marjorie Cook, Marian Hyde,' Roy Russell, and Jean Smith. Although the Theater Workshop has done Shakespearean plays before, this will be the first one to be done in the Cellar Theater. Two years ago they did the "Taming of the Shrew," and last year, "A Midsummer Night's Dream," both of which were outdoor performances in the Haywagon Theater. This, of course, will be in the Bertha Eccles Cellar Theater. Sociology Sociology students, past and present, who are interested in organizing a Sociology club at Weber college, meet in room C-209, Tuesday, February 12 at 11 a. m. Officers will be elected and field trips and activities planned for the remainder of the school year. Walter C. Neville is faculty sponsor. c C3j 3 Gossiping in Verse By Hope Stewart There now is an Indian maid She's the cute little Oti Chief And far, far away her steady plays Basketball in the fray . . . In this way not only does Signpost keep up with the rest of the times but it also recognizes what the students call "club rivalry" and shows the causes and effects of it. The Phoenix view of Sigma is presented by Phoenix LaMoyne Garside and the Sigma view of Phoenix was drawn by Sigma's Glenn Dickson. (Editor's Note: Remember, the cartoons do not necessarily convey the feelings of Signpost but only those of the two rival clubs. Other clubs are invited to participate in future issue containing At They See it.") Sharmea Looking back over the first half Winter Quarter we find that the Pink Ladies of Sharmea have participated in a number of things. First, the dear pledges went through a most pleasant week called "Hell Week". Plans are now being made for the Membership Banquet. The Pink Ladies enjoyed a "real fun" party with Phoenix at the Bertha Eccles Hall. The only regrets were from the girls that couldn't come. "Hip Hip Hoo-ray" for the clever girls who helped us win the Sculpturing Contest at the Winter Carni val. Congratulations are in order to one of our members, DeNeece Wheelwright, who has a ring on the third finger of her left hand. (Guess that means we're related to Phoenix.) For Your HEADQUARTERS Casual and Dress 1 Footwear .. There goes another one of those Phoenix Sisters. Skull Election of officers for the Winter quarter were held shortly after the old grind started again in January. The new officers are Richard Neilson, president; Roy Russell, vice president; Lynn Roberts, secretary; Grant Schow, treasurer; and Kent Arave, athletic manager. The members of Skull thank the outgoing officers for a job well done and wish luck to the new of ficers. Members of Skull brought back memories of fun from the sleigh ride at Huntsville with the Educational Club. The evening was topped off with chile and do-nuts. Members of Skull put on an exhibition in harmony on the bus but tied with the girls who put up a terrific fight. In the intermurals up to the end of January, both Skull I, and H chalked up one victory each with two defeats. The victories were over Lamb 5, and Delta Phi. With Coach Kent Arave pushing Skull along we expect to see a lot of action in the coming competitions. Plans are in the making for a party with Chanodo which is going to be a great success. Members are urged to come to the meeting in order to discuss the type of a party wanted. Also the office rs iirpn nil members to pay their dues as soon as possible. Skull gives congratulations to Kent Smith who recently married Jo Ann Lovell in the Salt Lake L. D. S. temple. Lots of luck to you, Kent and Jo Ann, and may your marriage be a great success. Visons of fun and laughter are still dancing in the heads of the members of L. D. and Skull who attended the party at Charlotte Stark's, 3033 Van Buren, on the 25th of January. Beginning at 8:00, the party was thrown into high gear with a series of side-splitting games in which the officers of Skull were the victims of L. D.'s "bird" game. The members of both clubs wish to congratulate Skull's Gerald "Deadpan" Moser, who just couldn't break down and laugh, but had to capture the victory as being the one and only "Stoneface". Soon after everyone was filled, the scuffle of feet on the floor of the lovely playroom was heard beating out a rhythm to the platters of the top personalities. The evening was topped off by blowing up balloons donated by the Wonder Bread Baking Co., after which a game of balloon-baseball was played with ace pitcher, Bob "Willie" Williamsen on the mound for Skull. Those who were not there missed an evening of pleasure. Jimmy's Flower & Giff Shop 450 - 25th Street Ogden "DISCOUNTS TO ALL STUDENTS!" Thank You for Your Patronage I "A Valentine of Flowers .
