February Holds Holidays Galore By Dot Johnson An old saying is that "Great things come in little packages." How odd it is that the shortest month of the year should be so packed with important days and anniversaries. In fact, you name it and February either has it or there isn't any room left for it. Sweethearts and friends were honored with St. Valentine's Day. Great heroes, in fact two of the greatest Presidents, have their birthdays in February Lincoln, Feb. 12, and Washington Feb. 22. And what about the birthday of Susan B. Anthony, famous tempor-ance and woman's suffrage advocate! The Boy Scouts even have their day the 8th. Several states have special holidays such as admission to statehood (Arizona) and Mardi Gras (celebrated in New Orleans). Naturally we can't forget the animal honored on the 2nd the ground hog. Nothing on February would be complete without saying something about "leap year" every fourth year, when instead of 28 days, February has 29. This is the only day devoted to the women to ensnare that "certain party."
